Howdy...

I'm looking for some recomendations for a vocal mic to work with a fairly soulful vocalist... his tone tends to rest as a mix between the lead singer from jamiroquoi and baby huey (of chicago soul fame), if you could imagine those two put together...

so, in other words, the vocalist is a baritone with the ability to get into the upper ranges as needed, and with the occasional raspyness when he starts pushing the volume a bit...

I'm trying to find a decent microphone within the 800-900 dollar price range that will have a very full-bodied sound--i want beatles warmth, to be very blatent about the kind of sound im going for--think abby road or the white album (straight vocal channels, not talking about vocals with effects on them). I know that alot more comes into play than just the microphone, and im working with that--one step at a time--but i want to get a decent mic for this vocalist, and next month ill get a decent pre-amp for him...

if more detail is needed, I can provide more information...

thanks alot in advance,

Shure KSM44 or an AT4060 if you can get a deal.

Stand by for 3000 other suggestions!

yeah, i know, i suck for potentially clogging up the forum with peoples opinions... the 4060 was what i was innitially leaning towards, so i may definately go that route, but i am open to suggestions--its just tough not being able to preview some of these mics, and having to rely on "word of mouth" to get anywhere...

thanks again,

The SP T3 sounded way better than I expected on my listen. That's about the only 'warm' mic I've used around that price range. But I've yet to use an AT mic that sucks so I guess you're on the right lines there too.
