Hi
I'm new here, and fairly new to recording, so forgive the ignorance. I am interested in putting $1000-$2000 into a mic/preamp setup. I play acoustic guitar and sing Nick Drake-ish type stuff. A recording engineer friend rec'd the Neumann TLM 103, and I've been looking at the Digidesign Mbox and Digi 002 Rack, but want to get the most bang for my buck, and would prefer the lower end of my spending spectrum. I also would love to hear about some non-vanilla type brands. Basically looking for something to produce a very warm sound. Would appreciate any thoughts and ideas.
Thanks
Robert

It's such a huge subject and questions like yours are discussed frequently on this BBS.

Have a look at the two pinned threads at the top of the mic forum and do some searches.

When you have some more specific questions people around here are generally more inclined to bite and you'll usually get some pretty solid advice.

Hope this helps and good luck with it.

Based on the Digi stuff you are considering, it sounds like you need an audio interface too? Software? What about studio monitors? These things will all eat into your budget for mics and preamps.
