Hi, I just picked up a vintage grundig condenser mic. It has a 1/4" cord connected to it.

I obviously will want to connect an XLR to it. What is the proper method for this?

If the wire is unbalanced, only one wire and a shield, connect the wire to XLR 2 and the shielding to XLR 1 and 3.

If it has two wires and a shield, connect the wires to 2 an 3 and the shield to 1.

Put it together with another mic in front of a runing vacuum cleaner and find out whether the level gets louder or less loud with the two mics.

In case it gets less loud, swap 2 and 3 and find out the level gets louder.

Thanks for the reply. If it's unabalanced, I connect the shield to 1, and then run it to 3?

Yep, the shield goes to both 1 and 3 unbalanced.
