MiaMIDI install problem

Anyone ever had any problems getting a MiaMIDI to install out of the box? I'm running WinXP home edition on a 2.4ghz P4 with a gig of memory. I followed the directions to install the drivers from the cd before physically installing the card, which I did, but after putting the soundcard in the machine I can't get the computer to boot up. Any ideas? I guess it could be an interrupt problem of some kind, but I've never messed around with that stuff before. My one friend suggested that the card may be bad and to try it in a different machine which I intend to do, but don't think I'm going to get to give that a try any time soon. Any suggestions would be readily run up the flagpole and saluted. Thanks.
 
Install drivers first ????? No wonder it won't boot up.

Generally, with Windows XP ( and even Win 98 ),
1) add the hardware
2) Re-boot
3) Win XP will ask for drivers to be loaded
4) Reboot and everything should be functional


The easiest solution is to re-install the old soundcard and re-start machine.
The machine should boot up.

Then, shutdown PC and follow steps 1 to 4 above.
 
If the instructions said to install the drivers first .... I can go along with that. Thats the same method MOTU instructed me to do with the interface I use.
The only issue that would cause would be if the card wasn't even in the system. Then all that would do is show as an uninstalled device in the Device Manager. Having drivers for devices that you don't even have wont cause a no boot.
You may need to check to be certain that the card is fully inserted into the slot and/or try a different slot. The fact that the computer wont even boot leads me to believe there is a problem with the physical installation of the card or the PCI slot being used.
Of course there is always the possibility of a defective card.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to see what I can accomplish this weekend troubleshooting. I'll post the results if I am able to come up with a fix. In the unfortunate event the card is bad though, I hear that Echo is really good about backing up their warranties. Guess we'll see. Thanks.
 
Also, never use the drivers (of any device) off a CD in the box.

Always go the company's website and download the newest-and-greatest.

(you don't know how long that CDs been sitting there in the box....)
 
Well, there you have it...

so in case any of you that replied to my thread are curious, i believe the soundcard is indeed defective. after trying to get it to work one last time, i took it out of the machine and was just kind of staring at it in frustration when i realized that one of the arms on the heat sink was completely bent over at a sharp angle. although a bent piece on a heat sink wouldn't make a hill of beans difference in performance, it does point to pretty severe damage to the card itself. i've contacted echo and am waiting for a reply. hopefully they'll send me a new card quickly and i'll be able to post my success story here in the near future. thanks again for your advice.
