This is a song called "Fallen Soldier" by a group called "At Dusk"

Think OLD Metallica. :)

You can grab it here:

Any comments/critiques would be greatly appreciated!

Narly guitar tone :D A bit too raspy for my tastes, but still it's all preference. This reminds me more of Slayer than Metallica. Or... I don't know, since I'm not an expert on Slayer. I guess it sounds like both. The vocals sound a bit like early Hetfield. The kick drum is pretty awful. I can't hear any low frequencies on it all. There's definitely energy on the mix. The vocals are too far back in the mix. The guitar solo is excellently performed. I guess the bass guitar steals all the low frequencies here. Cool thrash metal song! The outro is very Metallica-like too :D

The guitars dominate the mix. I like the guitar sounds but the mix needs to be evened out so the true power of the song can come thru. Bring the drums up and bring the vocals up and I think you have it. The thing rocks, no doubt and I am really digging the guitar sound. I LOVE double bass drums.

Metal up your azz!!!

22 the avenue, its the place where we all go!!!

Yea Old Metallica-Bass drum is cool with me.Bring up the vox.Great lead guitars.Good Chops, too.Cool song!!:D...I have been satiated.

Reminds me of "Reign In Blood" vintage slayer. Good stuff musically, nice and tight with good guitar and kick drum tone. Where did you put the bass in the mix, above or below the kicks?

Vocals are a bit predictable, but at least they're not frog-death-metal grunts!

I'll have to ask: How low do your monitors go? I'll admit, the kick is REALLY bright, but the low end on it is blossoming at around 30-40 hz. Yeah, it's way down there, but it is there. Furthermore, I have improved my kick micing technique since then.... I'll have some examples up in the next couple of months.... I'm moving right now and I just tore down my studio.

Well, I'm glad someone liked the kick. Like I mentioned before, the kick is WAY low, and the bass guitar is above it. I usually go this route as I like the kick to anchor the mix.

...Anyway, here's an interesting point: At no time did I use ANY boosting EQ whatsoever. Including the kick.

Nice Sounds So Far!!!!!!!!!!!

For some reason i only was able to load 15 seconds of it, but what i heard kicked ass. You might be into some of my bands stuff, Hateless Void is our newest. Let me know what you think. Man that sounds cool, if you don't mind me asking what are you using on EVERYTHING!!!!

Do a right click then "save as" and download the song. THEN playback. That should work for you.

Nice meaty rhythm guitar tone. IMO, the lead guitar/solo has too much reverb on there, which was a tad annoying. The vocals seem to have a tad much reverb too, but like everyone said, they need to be brought up in the mix.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like there are some small tempo changes or hits slightly off beat in the middle of riffs...

But yeah, cool song. The overall sound, the song title, and especially the chorus remind me of "Disposable Heros" a hell of a lot.

Actually, there is no verb on the solo OR vocals.

But, yes, the rhythm guitars probably could stand to be brought down a tad.
