Metal Track

The guitars have a very weak tone.
No low end and fizzy tops. I'd suspect an amp sim?

I couldn't hear a bass guitar if there was one.

I didn't think the guitar tone was weak. I kind of liked the tone. Just another opinion. The double tracking was a little off in a couple of spots. Maybe that's what you wanted. But I like doubled parts to be tight.

Agree with schwarz that, if there is a bass, I can't hear it. Or barely.

I'll never understand metal drums, as I've said before. Those machine gun kicks just never do it for me. But I know metal heads like it. So go for it.

There was a bass but my bass is so cheap that I had to cover it up to make it sound ok, I think I should invest in a moderately good bass. And far as the drums, if your not into metal I wouldn't expect you to enjoy the drum sound.

The guitar sound is fine, and this is a cool mix for someone who doesn't do it for a living.
First I'll give it more low end, and a tight one, this would also beef up the guitars.
Try some distortion in send on the bass guitar
The drums are weak, try making them louder (L2 or L1 with a buss compressor maybe), and punchier

Nah, I doubt the price of the bass has anything to do with the sound. My main bass costs about $175 and it has very useable tones. How you EQ and compress it will determine how it sits in the mix. BUT, you need an acoustically treated room to hear it accurately and get your mix to work.

Bring it up so we can hear it and maybe give some suggestions.

Yeah, I was fine with the guitar tones, too.

Well my bass is so cheap its falling apart, $175 bass would be an upgrade

I didn't mind the guitar tones at all, either. Nice and grungy... Good sounding distortion.. Nice and smooth. I can hear a bass, but it's very, very low.

Drums are another story. Your kick is very hard to hear, and from what I can hear, it sounds flappy, but that might be the inconsistency in the performance. Snare is, in my opinion, much more suited to pop than metal. It's got a nice pop to it, but it's not very punchy. Not too bad, but could be better.

The balance in the mix, to my ears, is very guitar-heavy. You've gotta mix the drums quite a bit higher to bring the detail in them to the forefront. I can hear every detail in the guitar, and almost all detail in the drums is being covered up.

My 2 cents, FWIW.

Good start. To your question, the guitars seem too loud compared to the drums at this point, but it doesn't matter because everything will change once the bass is properly tracked and you get vocals (and any other instruments you are doing) on this. The guitar tone on it's own sounds fine, but it is out of context. Let's see what happens when the song is finished. As a spotcheck though, seems fine for now.

Thanks for all the feedback, it seems the bass is the main thing I need to work on, and then work on the drums a little bit.

When it comes to drums most of you guys are saying they needed to be louder, but is that the only thing or are there other tweaks that need to be made to help them cut through the mix better?

Cheap bass shouldn't matter - it's how you record & tweak it that's important - my basses all cost less.
Add a little fuzz to the bass as it goes in - NOT MUCH - just enough to allow it to cut through.
then a tweak of a narrow 3 or 4 db boost at 3Khz.
The guitars sound OK.
The drums sound weak to me.
