I can barely hear the kick(s) mostly just cymbals and snare. Guitars sound good to me and properly panned. Is there a bass guitar in the mix? As I usually state, the headphones here at work aren't that great so that could be it. But from what I heard it needs more bass and drums.

Bass needs to come way up. The drums are either eq'd where they sound hollow or they are too far back in the mix. Toms seem to be completely absent. Guitar solo sounds pretty far out front on my monitors. Didn't really care for the guitar tone but the playing was pretty good. Hope this helps some.

The toms didnt track as well as i had liked. The drummer has 4 rack toms and i didnt have enough mics. So the only toms you can hear are in the overheads.

Thanks for the input though........

Listening to the new mix.......take this for what its worth (low end is probably the hardest thing to get right and can be very deceiving depending on where ane what your using to monitor). On my event 20/20's it sounds like nothing is holding down the bottom end of the mix. Your kick is all click and your bass (which i can hear slightly now) isn't very defined.
One more thing that I caught on the second listen, something very strange going on in some places around the 3 min and up mark with the overhead imaging. It sounds like the drummer almost completely drops out? When hes playing the ride its really quiet sounding, maybe its something he was doing but I just thought I would point it out.
You might try hi-passing the leads as well to help seperate them from the other guitars. Sounds like you have alot of guitars using the same tone, it can be difficult to get things to pop through without Eq in those situations.

Not qualified to comment on the mix, just wanted to say I dug the tune...

Is there any compression on those drums? The kick seems like it goes weak and then strong. The volume on the snare is kinda weak too. Bring up those in the mix. I can't hear really any bass guitar except in the mid range. Otherwise, pretty good.

maybe some reverb on snare for a final thing. The drums really sound like trash cans right now, but I'm really picky about drum sound. Guitars sound pretty good except take that solo track down. All I'm really hearing for bass are the frequencies. Try taking the bass up a little and EQ it a bit to actually hear the instrument as well as frequency. Vocals are good. Great song.

BAM! Nailed everything I was thinking.

Guitars are nice and chunky. Not enough bass guitar though. Drums need alot of work.
Mix as a whole doesnt really sound as a whole if you know what I mean. Kinda seperated sound.

Thanks for all the input guys...im really pushing for time, i need these to be in "good enough" quality in the next couple of days cause we take of for a 20 date tour on thursday.

I got alot of work to do..........

If your rushed for time, I suggest Triggering bass and snare drum because you are gonna have to EQ the shit out of those otherwise. It really sounds like the same you can get from taking a crappy handheld camera and recorded your drums. Sorry if this this is to harsh. Get triggering software with little time.

yea the drums sound really really hollow. the snare is alright and the cymbals are.. but the bass drum bores the crap out of me. sounds like you just EQd it to have nothing but click. the guitar tone sounds alright. vocals sound alright. the recording quality reminds me of the american tragedy/as i lay dying split that came out before aild got retarded popular.. so i guess it aint so bad.

you know, i actually just cranked up the EQ bar in winamp to see what would happen when i smashed all the levels to the roof... and it actually sounded right. so maybe once you do some ghetto mastering you'll be set. still pretty guitar-heavy though.

Yeah i had a go at mastering it and it sounded well good. Still though, if you fix the problems at mixdown it will sound ALOT better after mastering.
Work on the lo end some more.
I can post a link to the MASTER i did if you are interested in hearing the difference the mastering made to the quality.
Just say the word or PM me.

I don't want to rain on anyones parade but I hardly think Ghetto mastering is going to fix some of the problems that are being pointed out. It may sound slightly better but no amount of compression/eq on the 2 bus is going to fix hollow drums and it certainly isn't going to fix the balance between the bass/guitars/leads and the cluttered freqs that are happening on those instruments. IMHO these are things that need to be corrected in the mix stage, if not the tracking stage.

Bass drums are triggers mixed with kick mics, and snare is drumagoged.
