Ok guys this is the fourth song that was supposed to be on my bands new cd but things just didn't work out that way. Our singer decided that he wanted to pursue something more melodic. Our drummer is not into doing anything serious music wise (he enjoys playing in his spare time but thats about the extent of it).
Im moving to a larger city in 6 months so im hoping to use these demos as sort of a musical resume to get in a new band or find some new people to carry on where my current bandmates are leaving off. So thats the long explanation of why this is an instrumental track.
Mix comments are appreciated, im sure i will have to make some adjustments. The song is called "A will only death could break"

KICK ARSSSS!!!

That is a shame. Anyway as far as the mix goes, it kinda seems like the drums are maybe a nuthair too loud. The song really rips ass. I love. Totally In Flames to me. Hey check your private messages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the listen

analytical man. I usually mix the drums pretty hot, i like them to be in your face but ill try and check the levels again.
Check your PM

Where are all of you metal listeners at?

I usually have 20-30 replies by now. Ok ill try and be more patient.

BUMP!

A Will Only Death Could Break

Metal. Hm... the problem I'm hearing right in the opener ... it's the cymbals sounding washed out..

Really nice melodic break in there.

You are recording real drums, eh? Nice sounds... bass could come up about 1.5db. (or compress that mother some more) Kick drum is probably too loud in your mix by about the same amount. Same with the floor tom.

Really cool performance. Sounds like something Cyrokk/Beezelbubba would really enjoy. (gotta get their asses in here)

thanks for the listen participant

I don't really know what to do about the cymbal sound. The drummer is literally beating the hell out of the drums so it really is giant wash of cymbals lol. If that makes any sense. Any ideas?
Ill see about bringing the kick and floor tom down. I thought the bass was a little low myself but i was waiting on some other opinions in the clinic. Thanks again for listening

On headphones the drums sound good. You could probably lift a little above 10Kz to bring out some sparkle.
Nice performance. I like the buildup with the guitars and double kick. Some of the timing bits are Rush-like. Guitar and drums go great together. Very tight.
Good song, well constructed. Good job

thanks for the listen Bulls hit

Ive never really listened to rush , other than the songs that everyone knows (tom sawyer, working man etc..) but i will definantly take that as a compliment.

Damn, too bad about your drummer and vocalist. (you must live around here, I've dealt with the same wishy-washyness)

Definitely hear the In flames-ish-ness.

Excellent, hope you get to continue in this direction with your next band/project.

Post more!

cellerdwellar

thanks for listening. Im from a very small town in georgia and i really think that our location played a big part in our going seperate ways. Theres just no where to play within 2-3 hours of here that has even heard of bands like opeth, in flames, dark tranquillity, spiral architect, the list goes on. The rest of the guys just didnt have the will and desire to drive that 3 hours to try and build a fan base and a name for ourself.
Hopefully im still going to be able to get our drummer to do drum tracks for me if possible.
Any mix comments? lol ive got a remix that i tried to address some of the mix issues participant and analytical man pointed out. I just have to get enough time to upload it on this blasted dialup.

Wireneck,

Great playing and recording on this one!

I am very impressed with your guitar skills!

Sorry to hear it's not working out with the band as you guys are very tight and creative in your arrangement.

There's nothing that stands out as a mistake on this other then the drum's hat and tom levels seem a bit over the top in spots and the guitar could have been a db higher and with a little more top end in it as an instrumental.

If the vocals do eventually show up on this one then the guitar is probably fine as is.

Good shit!

Dude, I love this song. It's really good. The bass drum sounds a little weird to me. Maybe a little more snare? I think the floor tom sounds fine.

A little more bass would be good, but it doesn't sound horrible as is.

I really like this song. I wish I could play this well.:D

Don't worry wireneck, we're here for ya bud. Excellent metal chops it's a shame the band isn't going for the long haul. Whoa that is some intricate arrangement going on there. I have to say i'm more reminded of Iron Maiden when it's not there most commercial sounding. Kinda like Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner stuff ya know?

Anyway, keep the faith i'm sure wherever you go you'll find people to work with.

i got the 2nd mix up, its under the same name

. I brought the bass up a tad and pulled the toms down a small bit. Any comments are appreciated.
Ghost of Fm- thanks for the compliments on my guitar playing. Not really sure about vocals at this point. Analytical man has offered to throw down some ideas when he gets a chance so maybe something good will come out of that.
Dethska- i turned the bass up some in the newest mix. Check it out and see if it works any better for you. Whats weird about the kick sound?
"I really like this song. I wish I could play this well" Thanks man, i think the same thing all the time about other people lol.
Khompewter- thanks for the listen and praise. I always get the iron maiden comparisons lol, i guess that comes from my influences being maiden fans perhaps? Ive never really listened to them. Ill take it as a compliment though, i know they have excellent guitarist.
"Anyway, keep the faith i'm sure wherever you go you'll find people to work with" Thanks for the reassurance man, im looking forward to finding some people with the same amount of drive.

Oh yeah!!! Raising the bass worked awesome!!!

I guess the bass drum has a little more plastic "clicky" sound than I like. But it may be the tone you are looking for. It actually works when mixed with other instruments, but when it's the center part, it bugs me a little. Maybe it's my speakers.

Sorry about the tardiness, dude!

Also sorry to hear about the band. You guys have been in regular rotation here.:(

The work you've done here should make for a fine resume though.

My only mix nit-pick on this tune would be the snare sound (big suprise, eh?). It's a bit thick in the middle, and a little loud in spots.

The tune kicks ass as usual.

Keep us posted!

dethska- I don't always go for a ton of click in the bass drum but its fairly common in this style of metal to have loads of click. It didn't seem to cut through as well when i backed off some of the high end so i ended up leaving it that way.
M.brane- thanks as always for listening. It really does suck about the band. Ive been playing with these guys for almost 5 years now. We basically all started out together and taught each other how to play, im pretty bummed out about it, as if you couldnt tell. So back to the song, around what freq should i be looking at to cure this thick in the middle sound of the snare?

Well, finding specific freqs with the iTunes graphic EQ is kinda like swatting flies with a sledgehammer :D but the 250 & 500 hz sliders seemed to make the most difference. Maybe somewhere around 350-400?

It DOES sound In Flamesish around 50 seconds, pretty sweet. I think you should bring up the kick a bit. Nice mix, Wireneck.

thanks

m. brane- ill play around with the snare eq when i get home from work today.

Fatt musiek- i had the kick up in the first mix and it seemed a little too loud. I wish i could have left both mixes up for comparison but i dont have the room on nowhere right now. Thanks for the listen though.
