I finally have a question for the board... Its a basic setup type of question... I record mostly guitar, bass, and drums through my soundcard setup... I use the OMNI Studio by M-audio which uses two imputs... For a while I just set one thing up then something else adjusting everytime... This is not a very efficient way to record... So I decided to set up my Yamaha 2404 Mixing Console to imput into my OMNI setup.... This has definitely streamlined my studio, but I had questions about signal flow...

Where should my volume settings be on the mixer, the imput to the computer all the way down to my guitar, etc... Hope this is clear enough of a question to get a decent answer... I think I'm close, but there is so many combinations that its hard to see the whole picture when you stare at it day and night....Thanks, Brett

One more thing!

Also wanted to mention that my monitoring system is comprised of my PA Amp and speakers... A Randall amp and pair of CGM 12's... Is this setup going to be to innaccurate to use for recording??? This is a nice setup because I can just flip some switches and play my bass , the drums, etc., and at any time I can start recording... I find this to be an important concept in recording.... Basically I want to know if this will be entirely to inaccurate>..Thanks! Brett

I'd set your mixer up so the stereo outputs to the soundcard are just below peak on your LEDs. Open up your computer recording program and insure that the peaks are around -6 to -12 dB (below digital 0). Adjust your instrument levels and pres on your mixer to get the desired output level from your main mixer bus. Maximizing levels through your mixer will reduce the overall noise of recording.

Thanks

thanks Alex...That appears to be the answer I'm looking for...Appreciate it!

Problem!

Can't get the mixer output up very high without distorting...In my old setup (live PA style), I never had that problem... Wanted to mention, that even at the lower volume exiting my Mixer, the soundcard registers about -15db, but my track in Cool Edit is just about perfect....A little recording hiss, but that may be impossible to avoid...
