Hey thanks a lot guys.

I posted to see how the drums sounded, and then I started ruining a good mix by EQ-ing the whole mix without checking it on other systems. Sam said something about too much mid-range so I went and fucked it all up by boosting the lows and cutting 1K-2K. And I boosted the elect guitars a bit too. It's funny everything I did after the original post, someone complained about. :D

I'm sending up the mix without the over all EQ so no one else has to hear the hyped up lows or the louder elec gits. I still haven't heard it on any other systems. But you don't have to listen...I just wanted to know that the drum sound was improving.

Thanks again!

uhh... the 9.41MB, 192kbps bitch...

...that's the version spinning here...

Interesting snare sound... sounds far away...

Did you resing this again, Tom? I love those low backup vocals, too... Lt. Bob knows a good thing when he hears it.

Interesting that the toms don't have that crisp attack to them, anymore... different, but still good... love the squeaks... forget the elixirs :D

A little low-mid heavy right at 2:19-2:21 (the "yeah, yeah, yeah!" part) ... possibly?

The big thing I'm missing (I guess) is the crisp hit tom toms.

The thing I'm LOVING in the new mix? The way the accent acoustics sound right at 3:38-3:39 & 3:44-3:46 & 3:50-3:52 etc... that just sounds exactly perfect.

Nice reverb echoes on "shelter"... (4:37)...

the Lt. sounds as good as ever... but is that whacky solo in the outro getting buried a bit? Not as forward as before... IIRC... but mixed well enough, I guess.

Overall... still a cool mix... many of the bitchings here are preferences ;)

Hey Chad...I didn't re-do vocals or anything on this but the drums. Just remixed...and it's going to need another remix at some point. I agree with the tom sound- too much verb on them I think is the cause...or too much pre-delay on the verb... They were BOOMING in the truck today. Actually I agree with every suggestion everybody has said.
A little low-mid heavy right at 2:19-2:21 (the "yeah, yeah, yeah!" part) ... possibly?

I believe that's also the tom buildup.

I'm going to stop posting stuff before listening on other systems. I'm making you guys work too hard and probably annoying some.

Thanks for sitting through this again you guys! I owe yas.

dude, you sure aren't annoying me.. I look forward to all your threads, even if just remixes..

I just downloaded the latest.. I have to catch you later though..

Safe in MY cocoon...

Never get tired of your stuff dude!Brilliant as usual this mix sound awsome!Coulda brought Lt.Bob up a c*nt hair, but I'm listening on headphones.Cool stereo mix! :D Great sounding snare drum.Hats need to be brung up too.But I don't miss them, they're just low.Splendid work, killer song and great mix.Keep 'em comming.Lt.Bob's solo is MINT!

Very cool stuff. Totally non-stock. Good boldmix. If you do comp it later go easy. I like the dynamics.

I think the hats are blending with the attack of the acoustics. Maybe rearrange some freqs to separate 'em a bit.

Sam, thanks for the help man. But it's still heavily flawed. It's one of those songs I just can't mix in one sitting....too much dynamic for me to catch everything. I'm giving it another break...and the next time you hear it will be on the CD methinks....
Thanks again!

WISC, thanks man....you're right about the hi hat, and I think Mbrane has the solution. Also, the horns DO need to come up a notch or two. Heard it yesterday in the truck. Thanks bro!

MBrane, I think you're right on about the hats and the picks. Thanks...
I wouldn't dare to add compression to this one myself. I'll leave that to an ME maybe and just tell him if I think it sucks or not. :D

Peace guys.

We can let this thread go to make room for new songs.

AWESOME song, sluice!! Perfect mix & timing. The drums are definitely an improvement. Wonder why you haven't been signed yet!? My favorite song is still Road to Baxter Park, though, coz of the melody.

Lt. Bob -- your sax sounds fabolous!! May I ask you what mic & compression you use? I use a Neumann KM184 for my tenor recording, but I don't get that phat sound of yours. Your intonation has such a wealth of overtones that it almost sounds like two saxes!

Good luck and post soon again!

Hi Gig- I'll respond in part for Lt. Bob...Other than during the solo, there are 3 horns going at all times (I believe). The mix that's posted right now has the horns mixed about 2 db's too low IMO. My focus on this mix was the drums and I'll need to do some more work on it before committing it to disc. His horns will sit nicely when it's all said and done, but as you might imagine, this is a tough one to juggle!

Also, he doesn't use compression. I added a bit of software compression to the solo at the end, but that's it. I can't remember what mic he uses.

Thank you very much!

I'll field that mic question. :D

I can only wish I had a Neuman. But all I have is a......( I always enjoy the responses to this ;) ) a Rode NT-1.
Thanks for the kind comments. i do appreciate it.

thanks SLuiCe & Bob! I actually thought that is was more than one sax track ;-) I agree that the horns should be brought up a little bit in your mix (as a sax playa I guess I have to say this). C'mon Lt.Bob -- the Rode NT-1 is a decent mic, don't be ashame! ;-) I got the cheapest of all Neumann mics (KM 184) so I guess it doesn't count as a real Neumann mic anyway.

i know you want this thread dead, and i have no suggestion's
(weird, eh??) but i love this TUNE!! sound's improved to me!!
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!

thank's for the tune's!!

peace
