merging or combining

Hey guys, im new to cubase and i was wondering if there is a way to merge say audio track 1 and 2 into just one audio part on track 1, i tried clicking and dragging 2 over 1 but then it is just ontop of 1, i want them to become one part. Any ideas? thanks
 
Solo the two tracks, use the audio mixdown function, and check the "import to audio track". this will mix the two tracks and import the result as a new track
 
Thanks for the info. I have another question, whats the purpose of the external instrument setup in the vst connections. Could someone give me an example? do you need to set this up to use your midi keyboard in cubase because its "external" Thanks again
 
It sets up a physical synth up just like a VSTi, pretty handy feature
