Bought a stick of 256K Micron CAS2 from my friendly retail computer store. It works fine with my system (PIII, CUSL2-C) but one thing is bugging me. In the bios my computer is detecting my memory as CAS3. Specifically it shows up like this in the bios screen:

SDRAM Timing by SPD
SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay 3T

Does it sound like I got ripped off? Or is my computer detecting my memory incorrectly?

I thought I responded to this...hmm...

Try setting the timing manually and see if that does the trick. That's assuming that you don't have any other sticks in there with the new one (all modules will run at the speed of the slowest module). If setting the timing to 2T proves unreliable (crashes, boot failure, etc), then post the part number of the module.

In fact, if you're really concerned, you can post the part number regardless. You say you bought it locally...you can get 256MB of CAS2 Micron from their crucial.com website for about $60, and their support and return departments are excellent (relatively speaking). You can look the part number up at Crucial and get all the specs. (memory directly from crucial has a nice sticker with all the specs right on it, which is handy)

I'll go ahead and set it up manually and see if that does the trick. It is the only module in my computer. I am still wondering why bios is detecting it as 3T is this not an infrequent occurence?

thanks slack

and I posted this message before but somehow the BB ate it. (see message "Slack help!")
