I have the hardest time coming up with melodies. I can hear a melody on the radio and come up with no end of harmony, backing tracks, different chord progressions, and revised lyrics. But to make a melody up on my own well....

Any tips from you more experienced writers? I just need a melody.

You can get a lot of different answers to this question. If you don't mind a little reading, either of these two books might open it all up for you:

Melody: How To Write Great Tunes, by Rikky Rooksby, ISBN 0879308192
Melody In Songwriting, by Jack Perricone, ISBN 063400638X

I have Rikky Rooksby's "Learn to Write Songs on the Guitar" (or something like that) and i must say it is quite good....
