We just started recording our tunes and, on one of them, I would like to add a Megaphone/AM Radio vocal effect. Whats the best way to achieve this?

Should I just get one of those $20.00 megaphones off ebay or from radio shack? Got any effect/eq tips to get this??

Thanx.

Peace.

You don't need to buy one. Yes you will get the best results with one but it's not really needed.

If you use Cubase, try the Quadrafuzz plugin, soloing one band, from something like 400hz to 2khz, mess with it. Drag the band higher to get more distortion.

If you don't use Cubase, you can just use a low and highpass filter, move them around to see where they should go. Add a little distortion and your there.

The easier way would be to just get a megaphone, but if you want more control over the sound, you can simulate. First, roll off all frequencies below 300hz and above 2.5khz (you can play with the endpoints a bit, but this will get you in the ballpark), then add distortion to taste, and finally, compress the hell out of it (very low threshold and high ratio; 10:1 at least). Voila! instant megaphone.

Heh,

For one of the songs I want to record, I would like to sing into a walkie-talkie, and then use the output of my scanner (set to the same frequency) to record the part.

Just because I can. :D (And would also like that kind of effect)
