After much appreciated help from Madaudio and the good people at lightningmp3.com i can finally start to upload songs for yer scrutiny. This ones called "Meet me in Rags" I have two versions of it, this one being the most sparse and honest. http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=3825 I would be interested if anyone who listens can tell me what speakers they are using and what it sounds like to them in their listening environment, as im sure there will be short comings in the mix. i havent tested this link because my internet connection is going really slow today

Nice opening sounds man....very clean. And the panning seems to work well. Vocals sound good....I think they are fighting a bit with some of the guitar sounds though. Just small bits here and there. This is a pretty good mix though....
I'm listening on my monitors hooked to the pc....and not a treated room.....just a decent listening space.

Nice one thanks dogman. Wasnt sure how it would sound on everybodys systems, but then thats the thing about mixing anything. I will post a few more on here soon. I have another mix of this song with drums, organ and viola. I want to clean the mix up a bit before i post it but it will be soon.

I'm listening as I type using an old Toshiba amp hooked up to my card outwith some Akai bookshelf speakers.
It sounds nice & open, a little more going on in the (from my ear point or hearing) Left speaker so the stereo image doesn't create a perfect balance BUT it sounds good nevertheless. The one with the trem'd guitar in it.
Nice lyric, vocal delivery & playing.
In fact Very Nice INdeed.
I like a maudlin piece to chew over.

Hello!
This is nice!
Just like others wrote.
Have you ever consider putting last part of song to another level of loudness? If I were you I would ad a strong drum track, bass, whole rock band and kind a floydish solo at the end. I’m not sure if this would work but why not give it a try.
Of course, I would keep this lovely version too.
Keep posting

I really like it. Definatley brings some Floyd to mind. Mix sounds good on my cans.

I'd love to hear it with the drums and accompaniment!

Ok heres a link to the version with drums, organ and viola. Im not very good at drumming so excuse the sloppyness of it. This is more for to give you an idea of the direction and melody line for the other parts, it isnt mixed properly yet. Cheers for the imput everyone, its odd you should mention floyd. I am of course a huge floyd fan and when i recorded this i thought that it was a bit floyd. I take that as a huge compliment, it was never my intention but they are a big influence. Anyway enjoy!

Gummble,
Interesting re arrangment.
I think I like the sparser one though I reckon the viola added to that would be nothing short of fabulous.

thanks man, im gonna rework the arrangement anyway. Interesting what you say about the viola. I was thinking that, in fact thats why i left hole on the right channel. It was reserved for spacial effects and a counter melody. Im always caught in two minds to work with drums. I hate programed drums, they usually dont work for me but im not that good at programing them, maybe because i dont think like a drummer. Im working on an album at the minute, i will post stuff as it comes. Thanks again to all.

Very good tune. I'd tone the vox down a bit....they are a bit loud, and stand out from the mix. Maybe compress them a bit more, or eq some top end off....just enough to make them sit within the mix better. Drums might need some compression and eq also....they clash a bit with the vox, frequency wise. Guitars are very nice. Just work a bit on the drums and vox, to get them to fit together better. Should turn out really nicely when done man...

Listening on my PC Speakers (JBL hooked to the video monitor)......to the version with drums etc....

Yes this has a Floyd sound to it.

Drums are played ok but the tone is kind of tinny. Need to bring the mids/bottom out a bit. Dogman's comments were good reqarding the eq.

Nice sound on the guitars....

Smooth vocals.

Good tune, well done....... :) :)
