Mediocre effort

I like the song. Especially the chord structure and guitar parts.

With that said, I would like to hear more of your bass playing in the mix and the drums, well drums are very hard to program and make them sound like a real drummer. Kinda sounds like an acid loop kind of drums. If that is what you were aiming for, very cool.
if not, try using a rim tap instead of a snare sound. The individual percusion sounded a little sparse like the drummer was only hitting one thing at a time but then again it still sounded cool.

thanks for sharing your music

Damn nice guitar work digitcallous! I enjoyed it very much....very soothing, mellow guitar.

Nice tune man... the guitar work reminded me of Mark Knopfler...

:)

Like I've always known, you people are too kind. To me, although this tune starts out with a good premise, it all came together sounding lifeless. Maybe when I'm in the mood I'll give it another attempt. Thanks to all who listened.

clif, interesting that you should mention the drums in this. I have a double disadvantage: I'm not a drummer and I'm using a drum program. This song is specially weird because it has some 2/4 bars interspersed in basically a 4/4 time song. I'll try changing the drum sounds like you suggested and see what happens. As far as the bass is concerned, I can use you to lay down the killer basslines like you have for your songs.

Did someone say Mark Knopfler?:) This a good tune Digit. You do have a bit of Knopfler sound in your guitar playing. I like how you made the guitar more prominent this time in your mix, as opposed to "Starlit" where I felt it was not prominent enough.

On the downside, I didn't like the drum loop at all. I think something more soothing or subtle would complement the guitar lead much better. Perhaps strings or a more subtle percussion like a brush drum kit?

Just my humble opinion.

Good work nonetheless.

Nice

There are some good musicians on this board...

I agree with everyone else on the drums thing, but your guitar playing is really nice. I can see what you're saying about it sounding kinda lifeless - it's by no means bad, but I liked the soft expressiveness of "Starlit" - this song could probably have a little more of that. I'm not downing the song or your playing - hope you don't think I'm being a jerk!

Btw, I just ordered a "wee red box" for myself today, along with an MXL 990, an ART preamp, and Edirol MA-10d monitors. I've been using n-Track for several months now (thanks again to this forum) for video productions. I'm extremely pumped - and since I've been reading all you guys' stuff on this board for a coupla months now, I'm ready to "delete unused" with the best of them! Maybe in a week or two I'll have something ready to post and you guys can pick my stuff apart.

Thanks Knopfler Fan and Madfrisbee for the kind words. Good suggestions from both. I know this is not the best I can do. I was actually somewhat disappointed with the result and hesitated posting it.

Madfrisbee, I definitely don't think you are a jerk. I think your observation may be exactly what is wrong with this song. Although the playing in Starlit Sky is much more simplistic, I thought the result is much better than this one. Love to hear your music when you get them ready. I am my own worst critic sometimes, and it is best to put one's ego aside when one puts ones music up for public consumption.

Excellent Guitar work DC. Very mello and moving. I like it alot. My only suggestion is that the entire mix sounds too bassy. You can prolly fix this with some EQ work.

Backorder frustration

Well, I'll be waiting another month, it seems, for my mr8. I should have known the back-order estimate would only increase...

As one of our friends from the UK said a while back, I'm "mad keen" to get some tracks laid with this thing, so I'm checking the back-order status on MF every ten minutes or so....

But it's a fine and pleasant misery. And my whining stops here.
