I'm considering moving into the digital world, and am leaning toward the md 8. Good idea? here's the situation, I want to record 8 tracks simultaneously and bounce and overdubb the shit out of it. I don't like the menu based mixer sections on the rolands and korg and ADAT is a bit out of my price range. How about basic effects? I've heard the Alesis nanos are not too hot, maybe the RNC and midiverb? Basically, I'm just looking for free consultation with the experts!
I'd like to get the best quality and warmth possible with the least amount of equipment, cost, and manuals. Any advice, suggestions?

Yo LazyOne:

If you want a no MANUAL situation, you'll have to go to a studio and let the staff do your recording/bouncing/mixing etc.

Manuals are a way of life in the world of music or just about anything else, come to think of it.

The MD-8 will give you nice recordings but not CD quality because of compression. I enjoy my MD-8. The "start-up" instruction is clear; then, learning the ins/outs of the box is just like any other recorder - the manual is usually written in a thought process called reverse lixiviation idiotic convulsions.

As for reverb, well you'll get 99 dollars worth with the 99 dollar nano. The bigger reverbs with bigger prices, but not really that bad, will give you the option to program/edit the reverb patches.

So, you can probably stay frugal but your end product will also be frugal in quality. You don't need to spend your retirement, but you do need to shop and listen and get decent equipment.

Happy Shopping this Spring

Hey Lazy,
I read your post last night and went and read the ad on the Yam site. Then I went and looked up the price. Just about feel off my chair. Almost $1100.00 U.S. Dollars! They wouldn't get that from me! Not when an Alesis lx20 can be had for $1400.00 U.S. You will end up with more versitility, better sound, longer recording times, NO COMPRESSION. Not to mension that it can use cheaper hi bias VHS cassetts.

Well I hope that helps.
