Both these mics have really piqued my interest.

Primary uses would be for home recording as an alternative to both an LDC (414 xls) for vocals and an SM57 for micing the amp. The Sennheiser would be the newer MKII model. I know all this is subjective, but fire away.
Thanks in advance.

As a vocal mic I would prefer the M88, as an allround mic the 421.

The 88 is also a great kick mic. wonderful live vox and records bass cabs really well. The 421 does everything else well. They would be great compliments to each other, you really need both

Both great mics. I think the 421 is the more versatile of the two.

i dont think you could go wrong with either of those mics but i really am a fan of the m88. plus you can usually get them for a pretty good price used...

I would agree with this. I have both and find that I reach for the 421 more often, but the 88 is nice in that it would be a nice alternative for vocals v. your 414.

Either will do well on guitar cabs, but I think the M88 is superior for vocals, however, YMMV.

Just buy both, you know you want to.

i've never used the 88, but 421's work well on well...just about anything

Ok,
I broke down and ordered an M88 from Full Compass. I tried finding one on Ebay but no luck at my price point. First time ordering from Full Compass- holy smokes $284, while Sweetwater wanted $399 firm.

Expectations are high. What really swayed me was the fact that I heard so many positive comments for the M88 used as a Studio Vocal, kick drum AND guitar cab mic, as well as a stage vocal mic. Seems very versatile. Wish me luck.

Any takers for a Sennheiser E935 w/ 10 minutes of use on it?
