I am in the market for a set of mics for little hard earned cash. Which would be better for (in order of importance) 1) overhead drum micing (in addition to close mics on the drums themselves), 2) vocals, 3) accuoustic guitar

A "matched" set of the Samson C02 pencils is $119 at the Sam Ashe store in Raleigh
The MCA SP1's are $49 each on Music123.com

I have heard pretty good reviews on the MCA's, but nothing on the Samsons. Your opinions? Thanks!

I know a few people who seem to think the MCA's are really good for a cheap mic. They use the same capsule as the mxl 603's, which are a pretty versatile, brighter-sounding SDC.

wheres jim williams ?
jim williams chess posted on another site how he upgraded this mca mic and
how some of clients really like it compared to some pretty good mics.. i think it was gearslutz if i remember.

Yea, Jim's mentioned that, I think, on Gearslutz and on rec.audio.pro.
