I wanted to see if anyone knew if this would work. I have a PC laptop, with Protools. I have am Mbox to run the software and I wanted to hook up a Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro (NOT THE ONYX) to the Mbox to give me 18 channels. Does anyone know if this is possible? Will the Mackie link with the Mbox or do I need something eles? Thanks.

With the Mbox you can only record two channels at once--either through the analog or s/dif inputs. You won't be able to track 18 channels at once. To do this to Protools LE, you'd need either a Digi-001 or Digi-002/002R. Maybe one of the new M-audio interfaces would be an option as well.

The way the Mackie will link to the Mbox is by taking the stereo outs of the 1604 into the stereo ins of the mbox. You won't get 18 separate tracks in your computer, just a two track mix. That's all you can ever get with the mbox. however, you will be able to record 16 tracks at a time through the Mackie, just as a stereo mix. Hope that makes sense.
