Mbox--lousy pre amps or lousy operator?

I finally broke down and decided to try this whole computer recording thing. I got an Mbox, and am running pro tools 6.4 on windows xp professional. My problem is that I get a whiny sound from the Mbox. I swapped wires and equipment to see what was going on here. Everything plugged into the preamps would cause my speakers to start whinning. Is there anyone else who had this problem and kicked it? Cause I'm about to kick this mbox.

not at all....the preamps are focusrites which sound great (IMO). have you tried playing back something through it without anything plugged into the preamps? do you still get the "whinning noise"? it's hard to tell you the problem without actually hearing the "whinning."
you may also have just received a defective Mbox...i'd say contact Digi if you're for sure it's not any cable/speaker problem and ask for a replacement.
