Mbox bouncing to disk...

Ive done alot of research on this and some people have posted solutions on different web sites, but im new to this and im not sure what they are talking about.
I tried to bounce a 4 track song to .wav and it gets about 4 or 5 seconds into it when it crashes. it says something like "engine cannot keep up". I have a rather new dell laptop 3.2 ghz w/ 512 ram.
So far, ive heard something about "busing" the tracks to one track then exporting it, how do i do that?
Also will doubling my ram fix problems such as this as well as some latency in playback?
 
your ram is ok for bouncing a 4 track sesssion, it suppose that you should use protools with an external drive for audio files, but If you dont use to many plug-ins you shouldnt have problems. If you are using many plug-ins record your tracks into new tracks and then get rid of plugins before bouncing
 
I agree with Sonic, it's your buffer....increase it when you're mixing, and decrease it when you're recording.
 
What model laptop do you have? Is it listed on Digi's site as a recommended machine?

Its not one that isnt recommended, but it says that all recommended laptops are not listed yet and will be soon. I imagine there is nothing wrong with the model, It was brand new last summer. ill check and report back after i walk down to the studio and look at it.
One thing i did do that made a huge difference is DEFRAG THE DRIVE! It made enourmous changes in speed.
I will also look into an external firewire drive. They are cheap these days anyway, might as well.
