Aloha,
I need some help getting my new "Used" mint condition MBox 2 with PTLE 7.4 to work compatibly with my laptop. I know there are compatibility issues often with LE and many computers. My computer recognizes and powers the MBox 2 hardware up but doesn't recognize the 7.4 software.
It's a 3+ y.o. #6421 Gateway w/ 80 GB HD, 1.8 Mhz, 2 GB Ram, running Windows XP Media Center. I've optimized as per the MBox 2 user's guide but it won't recognize the software.
I plan to partition the HD.. I've never saved anything to it so there's 70 % space left. I reinstall every 3 months and have a new 250 GB external USB 2.0 HD ready for MBox recording. I've read of others using this model successfully with the MBox 2 and PTLE.
I followed the MBox 2 optimizations, have IE7 instead of IE8 and will soon change my OS from the Media Edition of XP to XP Pro.
I also plan to use the MBox 2 as a dongle only for providing simple two inputs PTLE, bypassing the preamp and converter sections and using better ones for those purposes. Is that possible with this unit?
Any suggestions, or optimizations, or protocols or DIGI resources I'm overlooking in trying to get my computer to recognize the software would be most appreciated.
I'll buy a MacPro in the future - but only if I can match up what I have now to become familiar with Pro Tools LE. I know that the initial learning curve for PT is steep. I have patience for that process. What I will not tolerate well is screwing around with compatibility issues when just a few adjustments could make it work. I'd rather avoid digital recording all together than be screwing with boxes all day like I used to. That's why I need your help.
My recordings will be simple acoustic guitar/ vocal affairs aimed at capturing some 45 years of songwriting and gigging - before I can't any longer. So I really want to get it down now and I am committed to Pro Tools because it IS the industry standard. And I could take my LE recording to a be mastered by a pro in HD without problems.
So please help with suggestions about how to make my laptops and MBox 2 PTLE 7.4 compatible. Or should I upgrade to PTLE 8 before I do anything?
Mahalo a nui!
