Maynard is my main influence right now. More the perfect circle stuff than the older tool stuff though, i cant say that I was really a fan of his voice back then.. Everything after the lateralus album though I'm trying to model.

I notice how percise he is with every word.. almost like they are olny being spoken to a scale. What I'm trying to get at with this thread is where do we get those scales to practice.

I know its been covered alot before, and I've searched through the archive.. but I cant read music, and a vocal coach is out of the question right now for various reasons.

Brandon from incubus does that too. Every word is expressed with complete clarity... I'm finding its noticible when I try too hard.

.. I've had the line from the new perfect circle song stuck in my head for a few weeks, and I'm trying to model it somehow ... "So glad to see you well" that line sums up exactly how I want to sing. "I'm more than just a little curious how your planning to go about making your ammends" .... how the hell did he get the melody and phrasing for that? Its perfect.

I guess what I'm getting at is not how to hit the notes.. but how to take a lyric, and turn it into something beautiful like that.

Just keep in mind that when they track a song in a pro studio, they spend most of the time tracking and retracking the lead vox.

NO SINGER IS PERFECT !
