You know when your final mix is done and its burned to a cd. The volume isn't as loud as other proffesionally  mastered cd's. What maximizer should I buy to help me with this problem?

Normally, you get it profesionally mastered. If you really need that kind of volume, You could get the Waves L2, or something like that. What software are you using? Normally there is something bundled with the software package.

I have waves L2 already but what do you do with that? do you add it to your final mix or do you only do it to certain tracks?I tried putting it on my final mix and it changed the sound.

You can use Cakewalk Pyro to set your volumes all to the same level and edit start and stop times/fades. It only cost around $30.00 too.

You can often go after the highest peaks, either on the source tracks or on the mix (or both -it depends) with the L2 for example without harming much, but much beyond that you should expect it to change the sound.
Compression and limiting invariably does that.

If the L2 changes the sound too much, you are going overboard with it. There is a limit to what you can do with a given mix. Once you go beyond that, the sound will change significantly. Some mixes just can't get loud.

You have a $1600 DAW program and a $3800 set of plugs and you don't know what to do with the L2?!?

T Racks is a great little program... if I mix the track right, you can get your volume higher than some of the pros with no noticable clipping, especially if it's a softer song.
