Djembes Rock
Does anyone know which preamp chip is used in the Tampa? If memory serves correctly, the DMP3 uses a Burr Brown. Since the Tampa was marketed as a step up from the DMP3, I assumed the chip was at least equal. I emailed MAudio customer service but the guy who responded said that the chip used was classified information!

Classified information ???

What a bunch of crap!

He just didn't know, and he didn't feel like tracking anyone else down in the office to answer the question. The lazy dipshit.

Although the Tampa was manufactured / distributed by M-Audio, I believe it was an Aspen Pitman design, so it might have been a little different.

Still, the only two instrument amps that I know of that are being used in budget / mid-level mic pres these days are the Burr-brown / TI INA-217 and the INA-163. One might guess it would be either of those.

Chess,

Yes, it didn't seem reasonable that a damn chip would be "classified information." Maybe the guy has delusions of 007!?!?

Hey, classified information is classified information!

Just because taking a screwdriver to the chassis declassifies anything they may have wanted to hide doesn't make it any less classified to begin with!

..i'd bet you're right tho.
