hi guys! i use a boss 1600cd for my recording. getting the level consistant from song to song can frustrating. i just tried loading a song from a band which has the"sound" i want for my current song. i listen to the loaded song, click back to mine for level, tone, ect. i hope to use the same method with the next song but use the first song's volume level for a more even sounding cd. having to watch the pocket book,...... any better suggestions on this phase of my recording?........lesmon

Trying to match levels during the mix is going to send you in circles. Mix the tunes, line them all up in a DAW (Heck, Wavosaur or whatever it's called is freeware - Reaper - Anything other than some SIAB). Worry about playback volume when the time is right to worry about playback volume.

well the main problem with this method is that whatever tracks your importing are already mastered... and likely squashed.

your tracks will never reach that "level" during mixdown. maybe after the tracks are "mastered" but def not before.

if your trying to match your mixdown to an already mastered track i'd try turning down that mastered track at least to -15dbfs or -18dbfs RMS

-18dbfs is roughly equal to line level, which is optimal RMS signal level, this is roughly where most of your tracks should sit during mixdown.
