Hey folks, just joined up and spotted this topic...

Here you'll find two mp3's, both from a band i used to drum in called The Signal (now sadly split). "Matching Claws and Beak" was a fine moment for us, and was interesting to record..... We were asked to contribute a track to a cover-mounted CD (for Bristol's Choke fanzine), and had a few hours of practice time to write and record the whole track. The end result was recorded using one stereo mic placed in the center of the room, two drumkits were used, one at hard left and one hard right, and bass and guitar facing each other at either end of the room. Does that make sense? We recorded straight to minidisc with no overdubs and then mastered the track on a Roland VS1880. Anyway, check it out. The other track (Untitled) was intended as a B-side to a 7-inch single which was never released and was recorded in a more orthadox manner which i can't be bothered to describe right now.

listened to Matchnig Claws and Beak - pretty good for a straight up jam-n-record. converys a lot of atmosphere - I would have liked to have seen it developed fully (overdubs could do a lot for this one methinks), but I guess it is what it is and I liked it anyways

I listened to matching claws and beak as well, and I agree with nickjc that it does convey some atmosphere. It just doesn't seem like there was much going on in the song though. It didn't really develop at all. It would have been nice to at least have a few lead or rythmic guitar passages to break up the monotony, and maybe a change to melodic progression as well at some point in the song. But it's cool, especially if you were only given a few hours to write and record the thing.

that's a pretty awesome quality recording for what you used. i imagine that even with vocals this song would be a ton cooler. i personally thought it was cool, but like everyone else has said............it could definitely be way cooler

good stuff.

I know i've bumped this already, but it's been a while. I'd be interested in more comments.
