I am having a serious look at a matched pair of Peluso CEMC6 microphones for recording acoustic guitar. I wonder if any of you have any sound samples of this mic or any experience with the quality. So far, all I have heard are good things about them.

I recently recorded a live flute and piano recital (french classical music) with them and was vey happy with the results.

As soon as I have a chance to convert the files to mp3 I'll be happy to post some samples.

They may not be on the same level as the Schoeps but they are really clean, even and present.

I am very happy I have them.

Peace

Thanks! Can anyone recommend which capsules I should get for these:

Peluso CK-2 Omni Capsule

Peluso CK-21 Wide/Sub Cardioid Capsule

Peluso CK-41 Super/Hyper Cardioid Capsule

I guess it depends on your uses and room. You can get the whole set, of course. Knowing what you're planning to use them for from your other posts, I'd suggest the cardioid or hyper cardioid. You might ask if they can be shipped with both capsule sets and you can return one capsule set (or keep them both).

I'm getting a pair of CECM6's myself as soon as I sell a pair of Groove Tubes GT44s, which are very nice mics, but perhaps would work better with other types of music than what I'm doing.

I guess the problem is, I don't know what these terms mean, let alone deciding which one I should request.

I dont have the time to sift through, nor do I have the desire to sift through all that.

Just get the cardioid capsules. You can always add more capsules later if you want.

Chessrock, have you ever heard the proverb about walking in another man's shoes? Don't be so quick to pass judgement when you don't know about me or my life.

Peluso CEMC6 samples

Hello Everyone,

Ok here are some samples from my recital May 18. Theese samples are from the french composer Francis Poulenc's Flute Sonata. This recital was done in the basement of the Marble Collegiate church in Manhattan, so the acoustics are not great, never-the-less I think this give you an idea of the sound of the Pelusos. The pianist was Deborah Jamini, who teaches at Mannes College of Music.

The rig I used is a portable rig I use for live recording, so the preamps are not great, but decent.

So the setup is as follows:
Peluso matched pair (Omni caps) > Roland MMP2 > M-Audio CO2 digital converter > Creative Jukebox 3 (using Optical in). This was recorded at 44/24.

The microphones were setup in an XY setup about 8 feet from the ground and about 3 feet from where we were performing, pointing downward a bit in between the piano and the flute. (The flute was to the left of the piano)

The only processing I did, was to use Waves' X-noise plug-in to get rid of some hum and Waves' L3 Ultramaximizer to bring the levels up. Conversion to MP3 was done using Samplitude 8 at 192 Kbits.

Thanks for posting these samples, the CEMC6's sound great, although I don't think I would use omni's for xy recording. I appreciate hearing these mics, thanks!

It was an oversight on my part. I had been recording previously with another pair (NT5s) which have cardiod pattern and totally forgot that I was using OMNIs. Oh well, next time I'll do it right! :(

Thank you for listening

Like you said omnis in XY wasn't intentional or probably the most desired setup, but I think you benefited from having them in omni anyway.

Sounds very nice by the way.

Omnis in a spaced pair nice and high off the ground would have been really nice ;)

I heard a few papers rustling ;)...don't worry I know how it goes. Some people just don't understand how sensitive the mics are.

Thanks for posting.
