Hi,

first post here !

I am not able to record on the Masterlink via SPdif RCA connector. The masterlink does see something since it changes the clockrate when the source changes but not signal comming in.
At least no peak meters showing any signal. The machibne will not record either ...

I tried different sources like a CD, MD, Rioland VS 1880 but allways the same symptom.

I cannot try with AES signal since I don' have a source ...

I followed the manual but I cannot find what could be my problem.
I am using V2.14

Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Thanks very much

Georges

Welcome Saxplayer!!

Is your input source switched to digital?
Also make sure your word length and
sample rate match your source.

Does the Masterlink record properly from
an analog source?

Good luck!

Mike

Well it does record from Analog Inputs without problems.
It does toggle in digital input when a digital source is connected
It does set the wordclock lenght accordingly...

No it does not record in digital.

Can you confirm about the SPdif that needs to be AES ?

Although I will soon own a digital board with AES i find it hard to believe that this is the only format supported.

Anyway thanks for helping I sure appreciate it.

I agree with FivePastNine.....

I had incredible problems getting a DA-40 DAT signal over to the Masterlink when I first bought the Alesis unit.... seems both Tascam and Alesis did some particular spec'ing on the protocol, and are slightly incompatible without using a converter between them.......

I called both companies and both looked into it -- they each blamed the other and wouldn't take it any further.......

I connected a Midiman CO2 in between the DAT and the Masterlink and the problem was solved........

Aaaah ! I think we are getting closer to the solution here.

Thanks a lot !!!!

I will have to look into the converter then. Does this Midiman alter the quality of the digital signal ?

No... in this case, it is not really converting anything, simply "standardizing" whatever portion of the signal the Masterlink doesn't like.........

I'm thinking of mixing down from a VS1680 to a Masterlink using the digital in/out. I am wanting to get a 24/48 cd that I can rip and master with a computer. I'm now wondering if I should expect a similar problem when trying to do this. Is this a pretty common problem with the Masterlink?

I don't know how common it is -- I thinkit depends on each manufacturer's digital I/O protocol "flavour"....

Certainly there's some issue with Tascam and Alesis....
