I record on an Alesis ADAT 8 track through a Mackie 1604 mixing board. I would like to Master my own music. I had heard that Red Roaster 24 is a good Masteing software. Does anyone have any advice on this and what kind of a sound card would I need....new to this.

hey...

U should get a soundcard with balanced analog inputs and (if possible $$) a pipeline input (adat multi channel digital optical input) so u can transfer your audio from the adat to the computer for editing and, if u wish, mix digitaly(inside comp). I'm currently working with Motu 2408 and im goin to buy digidesign digi001 (pro tools) but if u dont have the money, there are cheaper cards out there!
Anyways, for mastering, what you're really going to need is a good set of plug-ins and a standard wav editor like sound forge or wave lab!

Check out the SoundPlayGround at : http://www.angelfire.com/extreme/SoUnDMasTerZ
There u will find a link to download pro tools free.Try it out!
Hope this helps :)
