Is there any good mastering software that will allow me to revue what processing I have applied to a song? Like a menu of what I did? I use sound forge presently. It ok at best but I dont seem to be able to recall what I did.Jim

I think you can but......

I don't know about Soundfordge but I would think most software allows you to "record" your actions, kinda like automation. Can't remember the right term for it. Anyway....the thing is if you didn't do it before hand I don't know of any way to recall those actions or processes. I don't know of any software either. I think the only way to do that is to "record" your actions, save the file for later if you ever need it.

When mastering I always "record" everything I do to a song. That way if I have a song that I would like to remove a precess, all I have to do is open the raw file start the automation of what I did and stop the automation when it get to where I would like to change it. Then I'd apply the change and continue along.

See if you can do this in Soundfordge if not I know CoolEdit does it for sure. Once your figure it out you should make a habbit of doing that. Having those processes saved if you even need them for minor to major changes is awesome. I know it's saved me tons of time and I'm always glad I did it.

Good Luck

Save the original, use an EL (edit list) and use undo/redo to your heart's content. Save every version you like and A/B them later.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean by recall what you did, but when I master in Sound Forge, I use the "Plugin Chainer" to apply whatever processes are needed, and save the chain as a preset. I also don't overwrite the original (pre-mastered version), so that I can always re-master if need be.
