OK...so I have read the articles on dithering and I need to make sure I have this straight.

1) I rip a 16 bit CD and modify it slightly for some reason (maybe slight EQ) then use my mastering compressor plug-in to give it a bit on UMPH... :) NO dither needed.

2) I record at 24 bits - perform all modifications then convert to 16 bit (I don't yet have this capability but will) and as a last step in processing use the Mastering compressor plug-in. I USE dither.

I this right or am I more confused then ever??

ps...zip cowers and prepares to be flamed....:D

Do ANYTHING to it with digital signal processing = need to dither. Even with a 16 bit original file on a computer.
