So, as stated above, i have a Yamaha aw 16g mixer. I am having trouble figuring out just what to do for the compressions and dynamics (I'm pretty sure they're used for layering tracks, correct me if I'm wrong:confused:) I can't hear what they do when I fool around with them on one track. So if anyone has any compression/dynamic tips or techniques, please let me know.

Also, I think compressions goes in this category, but if anyone has any other mastering tips or techniques, they'd be greatly appreciated.

The reason I ask these things is mainly because whenever I mixdown to the st track, I burn it to the cd...blah, blah blah. I import it into iTunes and everything sounds good...but it's way too soft. Even when I set the volume to +100%, its still too low. Why does this happen and what do I need to do to fix it? I always have the stereo fader set at 0db like it should be. Help!

You need to be aware of what you have switched on: "TRACK" or "INPUT."

If you insert the HIP HOP program into a track, YOU WILL get a big power boost on that track.

VITAL MIX will also balance out the stereo track to a good level.

So, you have the DYNAMICS button to play with on a track or on the STEREO tracks; also, you have the MASTERING algorithm programs to try.

Push a few programs and experiment and check out the manual. If you need more info, go to the DijonStock site which is dedicated to the 1600 G or AW.

just in case you havent gone there ...try http://forum.dijonstock.com for this machines tips and tricks ..... these guys may be better able to answer your question.

for me personally in the past while using one of those normally ended up putting it through some kind of mastering suite on a pc for what you are talking about...the aw16g cannot match some of these progs.. which was a pain because of the lack of usb or firewire but as an on the go capture device ..no problem.

Thanks a lot guys. I kind of wish the mixer would be able to link up with my computer to use some programs like auto tuning too but hey, it is a great machine for its cost.

just to clarify this machine is more than capable of outputting a strong sounding recording.....so its probably something that you are doing wrong ...but for the final mastering i used the pc.

Well I just figured out on my own, by looking around. I found a pdf file that was really helpful. It didn't tell me outright what to do but it lead me to it. I just needed raise the volume of the stereo track in a way other than using the fader.

Got to the DijonStock site and in the Newbie forum, I think, there are videos of explanation for mixing, etc. If it isn't in the newbie forum, it's there somewhere. I checked out a couple of the tutorials and they were very helpful even if the "guy" talks a little fast.
