Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

REAL DRUMS!!!!!!!!!!!!! No machine, nice!! And the bass, you can hear it....unlike the album. Nice mix. The mellow section is awesome, I thought I was listening to the album.

very good indeed, doesn't sound processed.....sounds like actual people

I know you said that my vocals weren't cutting it in the version Cranky and I did, and I don't mean to sound spiteful, but you seem to think pretty high of yourself, so I don't mind telling you your version was not great..

I didn't care for the vocals at all, and there were mistakes and bad punches in quite a few spots..

you even started a thread preparing me for this one! hehe! :D

you funny.. :)

I like the vocals, sounds like the original. I did hear a timing issue towards the start of the song and a few flubs here and there. But, hey...I am not worthy to take on anything like this song so. Plus...REAL DRUMS!!! Cant beat em!!!
Tell us more about the equipment that you used to track this thing.
Sounds great to me!!!
wait a minute...what happened during the solo???
some off notes there!!!

Gear Used

Bass guitar was my buddies Rogue bass through an Eden Soloist 400watt run direct, Line 6 Flextone 2 fullstack, mixed with a Johnson J Station for the lead tones, and clean bit. In the mellow interlude i played some synth strings on a Roland xp-10...filled it in a little more. Vocals were done on a AKG C3000B mic, and it was all run into my Roland VS2480cd. A little room reverb, and compression wasused for the vocals. I really like the sound of Cranky and Sams mellow section, with the harmonies so i played them lower like that. Drums were my Tama Rockstar Customs. A little 5 peice with 6 Sabian Pro cymbals. My drummer doesn't really care for my seup, but his set is like lars old set...monstrous. Nady drum mics...Thanks for the listening. Oh and guitar was a Schecter c100 diamond series.

to me, this sounds more a like a decent recording at a bar. It is very mono sounding, with the occasional tom hits coming in...waaay off to the sides.

fairly decent cover, but "sounds" like a band, "trying" to get the metallica groove...

the fidelity also seems to have a narrow bandwidth...minimum high end during the beginning crunch stuff, and low end too. at the B section stuff, the quality is MUCH better, with the stereo/separated guitars. The lead is there, but kinda "stiff" sounding, like it is learned rather than created.

however, one friggin hard song to do justice too. this WOULD rock in a local bar, without a doubt. I'd probably even suck my beer faster too.

Some mistakes and weird stuff. The vocals are kinda far back, but have energy. The first verse is too rushed in that ONE place. Still, this has a nice energy to it, and I gotta respect the real instruments on this. It sounds mono, except for the tom fills. I would have doubled the guitar tracks. I hear you took a bit of James in that Master fade out before the mellow :D

I'm not that crazy about the guitar tone, but it's ok. Hey, the "Slow angry verse" is how the whole song should have been mixed. Rhythm's left & right and all that. The fast solo is not accurate, but I guess you weren't going for a clone of the original, so it's cool. I usually need a thousand takes to get my solos "right"...

The kick drum sounds kinda puny, but it works good enough.

I Saw you posted this quote in the other thread.. I had to hear it...

>>>"check out the other MOP floating around, and see what you think of the guitar sound and the real drummer"

Everything is pretty decent in this, and I like the vocals and guitar sounds... The Drums sounds are Ok....Not awesome, but not painful either

I agree with what people are saying about the wierd panning of the toms, and everything drumwise else seems mono.

As for the drummer, for a drummer who has one of those huge kits like Lars, his timing is very rough... Especially in the slower, easier part near the end, some of the drumming is way off..

Double bass hits are not with the groove, they are just sort of thrown in there..

He's not grooving with the mental metronome..... all drummers have one (The one in his head).... He is almost playing nevously....

I had that problem when I first started recording myself playing drums.. Now I can pick off a drum track on the first or second take...(if im feeling good about it)

He is obviously a good drummer, he just needs to get used to having the pressure of being recorded..

I'm a drummer so I really notice this shit..:D

But, Like I said above.... Everything else is decent, and I enjoyed listening to it...

Thanks for posting it.. Keep 'Em coming.

Joe

Stuff

The song was recorded using the original song as the click track. I don't really know what happened to my stereo sound, but yeah the toms are like the only unmono(nice word huh) thing. The overall playing is a tad stiff, because we were maybe trying to hard to get it dead on with the album. We maybe should have just jammed it out and let the vibe of us in the room together carry the song. I think i am done covering stuff for awhile, i want to get back to concentrating on original stuff. Thanks for the constructive critisism.
