Hey everyone. It's been a really long time since I've been able to post here. :( Life seems to throw me curveball after curveball. I've had time to make some music though, and I've uploaded a lot of it to my mp3.com page. Here's what's new...

Oh - and I realize this is a lot of stuff. When I see somebody post a bunch of new songs, I usually think "Yeah right, like I'm going to listen to all that!" :) So, I'll throw in what I saw as my main influence in the creation of each song. If you like one of those groups/artists, maybe that'll inspire you to have a listen.

"Pop" songs (songs with vocals):

"We Cried" (Pete Townshend / Duran Duran)

"Coda" (Radiohead)

"Life Changing" (The Human League)

Instrumental songs:

"Tabula Rasa" (Japanese video games like Final Fantasy)

"Yume" (Absolutely no idea)

"Inner Piece" (should be approved in a few days, but mp3.com's been slower than dirt lately) (Japanese music box recordings)

If any of you feel like commenting on any aspect of any song, I'd appreciate the feedback/criticism. Thanks!

Why delete it?

I listened to Coda and thought it was excellent. I like how the lofi sound kept trying to pull itself up but always fell back down.

I also had time to listen to Yume. Aside from an abrupt ending, I found it very enjoyable. Is that a live dulcimer? How about the flute?

P.S. I'm a moderator but not in this forum so I can't help you if you want to delete this thread.

Thanks a lot for commenting, Slackster!

I was really happy with how Coda turned out. I'd never written or recorded a song that easily and quickly before. For that reason, I guess I'm a little afraid to touch it again, even though I know it needs to be re-recorded. I just ignored all the little noises and things that I knew I was picking up, because doing that would've... I dunno, broken the rhythm I'd found?

As for Yume, nothing's live. That's all the magic of Audigy. ;-) Well, and some very careful, slow sequencing. Maybe that's why I ran out of ideas so quickly. :)

I guess it's just frustrating, how difficult it is to get a response around here. I realize that this board is fairly rock-centric and slow to warm up to new members, but it's not as if I joined last week, asking why my radio shack mics don't make my recordings sound like Staind or somebody.

Hey, I know that downloading mp3s is a pain in the butt. I'm only on 56k, and often when I'm online, I'm using what precious little bandwidth I have for other things. But of the 48 people who looked at this thread, I'm thinking some people must have listened. And only one had thirty seconds to type a response? There's something wrong with that.

Sure, my number of posts and length of membership are disproportionate, but I'm not exactly a newbie. I'm pretty sure one or two people recognize my screenname. So that's probably not it. On the other hand, I'm far from being one of the "big guns". Who, of course, rarely respond to any of my mp3 posts.

Maybe I suck. But I'm pretty sure I don't.

Maybe nobody cares about somebody influenced by mostly British music from the early '80s. But I've found a number of terrific electronic artists by browsing the mp3 board once in a while, so I certainly can't be the only one who doesn't make the guitar the primary focus.

Maybe I'm not serious enough as a producer? I know I'm not exactly rivaling Nile Rodgers here, and I don't intend to try. I come here mostly wondering what people think about the music. If I ever actually release something and try to get money for it, I'm really hoping it won't have "Produced by Jason ______" on it. But that doesn't mean I don't want to get better at recording. Otherwise, why would I even be here?

So yeah, sometimes I wonder why I bother with the mp3 mixing clinic, because generally it's a real toss of the coin whether I'll even get a single reply.

I am listening.

Coda: I think the vocal and guitar(intro) might be a little too bright (maybe it's cuz I am listening thru cans right now) and I am hearing a slight clip on the left vocal around 1:42 and 2:15. but, other than that, I really like this tune, shorta like a quick sad dream....oh, wait, this song was actually almost 3 mins long. Now, you know what this means, right? Cool, it totally sucked me in. Nice tune

Life Changing:

Now I hear more of your complete work. It sounds pretty dame good. Nice vocal harmony. Nice key change that reminds me of a bit of Pink Floyd. Good job
