MAS recording mode

so here i am perusing the owner's manual for my new VS 1880 and i come across a little side note which explains that recording in MAS mode means only tracks 1-8 are usable. now, i don't really fully understand this, and i am note quite sure what MAS mode does, but i have a bad feeling about it. if i want to record something to burn straight to a CD-R do i have to use this inferior mode? once again i am sure that i have missed something, but i am guessing someone here can probably explain it to me quicker than it would take me to figure it out and much MUCH simpler than the manual ever could. thanks in advance!

MAS mode is actually uncompressed, 16 bit, 44.1 kHz, exactly the same as a CD.
So it is not actually "inferior" but different. The other modes of the VS, such as MTP, utilize data compression.

Mas Mode

Mas mode is short for mastering mode. This is the way to go as theres no compression. It just takes up more space on the hard drive. In other words its the best recording mode.
As far as burning straight to a cdr Im not familiar with the 1880 but in any event it has to be a wave file. You will have to check your manual to see if the conversion process is done automatically by the 1880.
As Axis pointed out a cd is 16 bit 44.1khz. Yes you can use the other modes but it still has to be converted to a wave file.
