marty is a animal to say the least, this guy is so technical and his solos on this song are so melodic, anyway to say it in short im learning this song from top to bottom and hoping that i benefit from it and gain a little bit of a melodic style or i mean add a little bit more spice to my own stuff, ive been working on it for 3 days now lol and its realy a hard song so far, the solos realy make up a big part of this song. I feel he is a very underated guitarist and without him megadeth wouldnt have been the same not to take anything away from chris poland but man marty rips big time. anyway this is just me ranting about this song trying to get a little break from it to give my already burnt out carpal tunnel hands a rest lol. thanks for reading. the flash

Supposedly he and David Mustang trades off solos on that.

Every other solo is him or so magazines used to say.

Great, great player. I remember seeing him tour with 'deth on the Slayer/Megadeth/Anthrax tour a while back.

My favorite Megadeth guitarists were the ones off of the Peace Sells album- Chris Poland and Gars Samuelson. Amazing, melodic stuff on that album. I love that fluid/liquid-y style they would do their runs. I use to listen to that album at least once a day for around a year, back in high school.

Hangar 18, ok... but if you get the Killing Road-solo (Youthanasia) down.. I'll kiss your feet. :D

as to playing the killing road solo i might as well play speed metal symphony by cacophony lol. i dont know if dave and marty switched solos on this one or not, i dont think so though it sounds to much like marty playing to me all the way through, i believe dave was mainly a rythm player after he gott marty.
im not saying dave is a bad guitarist im sure he can hold his own but theres not many that can keep up with marty. his new stuff music to speed to is the most awesome thing ive ever heard.
ive gotta go back and see my hand specialist doctor again lol.
ive been in and out physical therapy and surgery so many times that ive lost count, but ive been working pretty relentless on this stuff. my doc says guitar playing is not good for my carpal tunnel but ya know what i dont realy give a shit i wont be held back and i wont slow down after i play chromatics for 20 mins my hands seem to loosen up so i dont see how its hurtin me. peace sells was a awesome album and i to spent endless hours listening to the melodic guitars on there. i used to love to listen to the guitarist from king diamond pete black and andy laroque i know i didnt spell that wright sorry andy. those guys were very melodic also. i still listen to fates warning to these guys were realy cool and i love there older stuff, the newer stuff gott weird.anyway enough said and thinks for listening and responding to my pain reliever rant lol. the flash

Actually, Dave and Marty did trade off solos in Hangar 18. If you are familiar enough with Megadeth's work, you can pick out the solos (keep in mind too, that Dave was the original lead guitarist for Metallica). Marty's style is more melodic and classically oriented with a huge dose of sweep picking. Dave typically has a slightly less bolder lead guitar sound and typically plays more of a frantic linear style.

In any case, my fascination with Megadeth lies more in the rhythm guitars. Dave's technique which flies all over the Rust in Peace album is extremely challenging. When I tried to learn Hangar 18, I couldnt get passed the rhythm between the solos, let alone the solos themselves. Same goes with Wake Up Dead. I never finished learning that song because of some of the rhythm playing involved.

Although I can barely make it through a Metallica tune, I can't even make it to the race with a Megadeth tune.

Yeah, I also love that album. Chris is a very fluid player.

Of note, Gars was the drummer, Dave was the other guitarist.

Also, I agree that both Dave and Marty traded solos on Hangar 18. Cyrokk put it well in stating Dave has a more "frantic linear style."

ive gott the rythm guitars all tracked all ready for hanger 18 and let me tell ya it was a challenge dave and marty make one hell of a team. im recording it so i can show my old freinds who moved away wright after high school who used to listen to megadeth all the time with me that flash can play better than ever lol. the solos are taking a little time but i am getting em im about 1/4 of the way there the only problem is the last realy long stuff at the end is a bitch and its gonna be hard to do but ill get it done for sure lol. thanks for sharing in some old memories with me guys and ill post this song when it is done for ya all to rip me apart lol.

Doh! Pretty sleepy when I posted :)

Didn't Marty release some new-age solo album a few years back. It might have been another shredder, but I remember buying it and being blown away by how horrible it was :(

About "Killing Road".. Dave has like the 10 last seconds of that solo..

What gives Dave away is his picking technique.. You'll always hear Dave kill the string with the pick, while Marty's just so invisible....

So.. when you've finished "Killing Road", I suggest you move on to "Poison was the Cure"... ;) :D

ive never heard marty play anything that was horrible so i think your thinking of someone else. and meshuggah you are wright about mustangs picking technic i bet he breaks alot of strings, although he does add some characterristical changes and it mixes well with him and marty playing together, marty realy does have a transparency to his technic that few have, im realy gonna be studying him alot in the future i think he can realy help push you over the top, i started learning some cacophony stuff at one time about 6 years ago i think it was speed metal symphony and i gott thru alot of it but couldnt quite play it up to speed who knows maybe ill give it another shot soon. im always up for the challenge, but like i said earlier my hands are realy tied with this carpal tunnel surgery i had and it has slowed me down so much but i am working through it and i wont be held back by it any longer. i am on my way to a full recovery and i wont except anything less. my biggest problem is i become so infatiuated with learning a song that ill hammer at it for 5 hours straight until i get it wright. i should try and break it up a bit more with my condition and all. thanks for listening to a old washed out guitarist who still has dreams lol. the flash

Just looked up the album on his website.
The album is called Scenes. I love his rock stuff. But I remember that Scenes did nothing for me at all, IMHO.

Sorry to post so late on a side point, but here's the breakdown of the leads: Marty plays both the leads that follow the choruses, the second of which ties into the first lead of the "instrumental half." Dave takes the next lead, and then they simply trade off for the remainder of the tune. And yeah, Dave's style is a bit rougher 'round the edges, more raw. But I'll take Dave Mustaine over Kirk Hammett any day. :D

marty kicks ass....

You got to check out the cacophony stuff with jason becker. And martys solo album "dragons Kiss".
