what is the difference between these two mics except price (and the free shockmount at 8th street..is this worth the extra $$)?:

http://www.8thstreet.com/product.asp?ProductCode=7727&Category=Microphones

http://www.marsmusic.com/store/prod...&primarySkuId=10068&deptid=9&RELOAD_PAGE=true

I'm wanting to record some acoustic guitar and vocal demos....I've read through this board and found a wealth of info on condensor mics..almost too much for my brain to absorb...but it seems as if the v67 is a good choice for both vocals and acoustic...I have an ART studio mp tube pre also...

thanks...:D

What I understand is that they are the same mic, only that the housing is brass on the G? I believe this is what was said, but I could be wrong. The internal components are identical. I got Sam Ash to pricematch the Mars V67M at 108.95 w/S&H and they sent me a V67G for $105 shipped. It took a little persistence though, I got turned down twice. Use the internet pricematcher on their site.

wonder why?...oh i'm confused...lol..

I saw Alan Hyatt write that the V67G is made by 797 Audio and the V67M by the same company called Fielo. Ive also read that the G model is a nice mic, but the V67M is the same as the MXL2001, which (could be) isn't as good. Im just spewing what Ive I read from other threads, feel free to research more on your own.

Peace,
Dennis

thanks for the link..I'm also now looking at the 2003..

http://zzounds.com/love.music?p=p.MSHMXL2003&z=1341385279653

im going nuts lol...

on searching...that's what i prefer to do..look back at all of the old threads on a subject before i post...

but for some reason i cant get good search results..

for example:

i go to search...select the "microphone" forum...select "search in threads"....type in, say "marshall v67g" and get 2 results....I used to come here more often and the search feature always worked great...

but if i take the time to go back through the pages of threads, I see numerous threads on the subject...

Hello,

Be less specific on your queries. You should get better results.

There is no one V67M model.MXLs sold by Mars are wired with Mogami cable, hence the M.Other specs are the same. The mic is available as V67G (for gold) V67B (for black, the one I got) and another model for ivory or white. The 2001 doesn't have the transformer the V67 does. That bit of iron makes a big sonic difference.

thanks for the reply...is it the same for the 2003? that's what I was looking at...

thanks again......

CDT-sHaG,

The specs you quoted for the V67G are wrong. Those are the specs for the MXL-2003, not the V67G. The V67G doesn't have a 10dB pad, or a bass roll-off switch; the 2003 does.

The specs for the V67M are the same as the V67G; I don't know if it has the same transformer or not.

Your search results for a "Marshall Vg67" aren't surprising - that's the wrong name. There's no g between the V and the 6. Try "Marshall V67G" instead.

But as Harvey has noted in many other posts at this bbs, specs don't mean they sound the same. Actuals and Advertised are usually not what you would like.
Does anyone have both, and do they truely sound the same?
Green is my favorite color though, so the V67G is the better Mic!

Peace,
Dennis

well i sure am the resident idiot lol......i mistyped it above.....i still get 2 results from "marshall v67g"......

anyway...

I did find the old thread where you detailed your experiences with the various marshall mics...very informative.

thanks....

I have both and they truly sound the same to me. The measurements I've made comparing the two has also showed no differences (inbetween my two specimens). For further info check out the linked thread above.

/Henrik

I'll have both in 2 days and I will let you know what I find as well.

Somebody screwed up, the V67G is green not black and it doesn't have PAD or LOW CUT switches.

Give a Shag a break...

Actually, I got my V67M today and was surprised that it didn't have the rolloff switch. The 8th street site incorrectly lists this. Now I know not to expect one with my V67G tomorrow.

Shag,

Search with v67. you will get quite a bit more. Be less specific. Also, most people refer to it as the v67g or m but usually don't use the word Marshall in the post. I got about 35 hits when I searched with v67. I'll make it easy... Click HERE

i just did a search of all forums and got 38..i see

but i should be able to specify just the "microphone" forum and get more than 2...when i search all forums i get 38 and more than 2 results are in the "microphones" forum..oh well...no biggie. thanks.

Mogami cable

It looks like the V67g and V67m differ only in that the V67m uses Mogami cable (and color). ACtually, I'm not even sure this is the case as the V67g specs don't say what kind of cable it uses. If the internal wiring is the only difference between the mics, will this affect how they sound? I know bad cables can make a good mic sound bad, but asuming both versions of the V67 use some kind of good cable, would there be any noticable difference?

By the way, the MXL 603s also uses Mogami cable. I wonder if all their mics do and Marshall is simply advertizing this fact for the V67m as some kind of marketing ploy.

Woohoo! I just noticed I lost my Newbie status. I feel so much wiser...

i dunno...that's a good ? on the cable.....

i notice that we're rated now..a whole 3!! wooo hooooo!!! lol...
