Hi guys,

I was doing nothing last weekend so I decided to record some singing voice into the marshall v67g for those of you who have questions about it.

the file size is less than ! meg and It can be found at:

or by going to www.nowhereradio.com/artists/rockpop/jaguarslogic
and clicking on v67 to dmp2

To make it inexpensive, I recorded it into the m-audio dmp2 preamp, so the total cost of the vocal channel was
$265($180 for mic and $85 for the preamp)

The v67 cannot get worse than this. I sang about 5 inches away from the mic, so it picked up all my throat sounds.

I was also recording in a small, untreated space that did not sound very good.

enjoy.

ps.

Don't even dare say anything about my voice. I am painfully aware that it needs ALOT of work even though I got an A in voice class last semester.

also check out the transparent dmp2 preamplification on the instrument inputs here

So are you saying it souded like crap to you, or sounded great? Your post is a tad tricky.

My man tubedude,

That's for you to decide. IF you like the quality, buy one (or two) if you don't buy a rode ntk or somethin of that nature :D

Very nice. Sounded like you boosted the top end a little bit. I wouldn't have. Now if you redo the bottom voice, try moving in right on top of the mic (about 1" away and from about a 30º angle), it'll really provide a nice, even warmer bottom voice.

Hey! I liked it! What reverb did you use? Dang, now I need to buy a v67g.. I'll remember to blame you when I go broke. :D

hi guys,

yes Harvey, I boosted the top end quite a bit.I still can't translate with the monitor TWOS and I could not hear a thing that day, so its sounds like you know what..

I will definitely take your advice on the bottom voice. I sang about five inches away an it was too bright, so I had to do some serious dipping in the mids to get it like that.

hey Prism, as far as reverbs I used a Lexicon 480LArc. only $9999.
NO. I'm kidding. I really used Waves RealVerb and selected a plate. Listening through headphones, I think I could have brought the vox a little bit forward.

peace

What is "Waves RealVerb"? Is it a software plugin? Dang, but I really like that recording...beats the heck outta my AT3525, although the AT isn't necessarily a "bad" mic...probably just bad on my voice.

That's why I said come in from an angle. The V67G is one of those mics that should require very little eq with the right voice. The fine tuning is done with distance and placement.

Hey Harvey,

I messed with the high eq, and I could not even believe how much smoother it sounded. I think I was listening to loud music that day, else I should not have put so much high eq on it.

About the fine tuning, I will go and experiment with that. I can see how that should work. Normally, I always eq my mics by putting high end, but after flattening the v67, I can see that it has its own high in abundance.

hey prism,

as I said, I removed some of the high(not updated yet) but it totally brought out more character out of the mic. It now sounds like it costs $2000. very smooth.

Waves realverb is a software plugin. I used it because it is my most cpu intensive plugin. I could have used logic platinum verb or even freeverb and got about the same result. freeverb is awesome and is freely downloadable off the internet. It does not have as many parameters as realverb though.

I will try and provide an update to the test sometime tonight. You will see how much better it can sound and youll be truly amazed.

V67 having a GREAT hair day. On tape

WARNING: Even though it sounds like it, this is NOT sting's vocal chain. Nor is it Cindy morgan's either.

I rerecorded the singing sample. I was trying for different sounds by positioning, but when I heard it from one inch away, at a thirty degree angle, all experimentation stopped.

It sounds like someone took my voice and added a fire under it.

This is also less than one meg so It should not take long.

Info: Again, it went through the $85 dmp2. It started life at 96khz, but has lost some from resampling, changing bit-depth and converting to mp3(all was done in soundforge).

THere is absolutely no eq on this. I could have removed some low end, but I wanted yall to hear it raw as possible. I think it can go on cd even raw like this.

Prism, I tried to recreate the reverb with another one, but I couldnot . For some reason, Realverb does not work at 96 k and the others only half work at that sample rate.

enjoy.

Sweet mother of Jesse Jackson! I gotta get me one of those mics! That was stunning...makes my AT look even worse by comparison...dang! I always have to cut some of the mids on mine. OK, next on my list: v67g, new preamp, compressor, and Lexicon reverb... (dunno why I mentioned those other 3 things, but they are things that I will want to get eventually :D)

...Go ask Bill Medley to sing into one of those for us and then check back later with some samples. :p
