A friend of mine bought the 1006, I have the V67 - we had them side by side in my studio, neither of us could hear any difference between the two (with the exception of a couple db difference in output level between them, and I'll bet you'd be likely to hear just as much output difference between two V67s just because of manufacturing tolerances).
I mean, I KNOW they have different transformers (or whatever other "electronics" are inside there), so they ARE different, but, hey, coulda fooled me. I'm sure that closer listening would reveal subtle differences, but, they're absolutely the same "flavor." Having it to do all over again, and if I could live without the cool gold & green motif of the V67, I'm absolutely certain that I could've gone with the $99 (or whatever) v63/1006 - no problem. If I were you, I wouldn't give it a second thought, you did just fine.
And for the record, if the world really needs yet another opinion on these mics - they're flat-out great. Yes, they CAN sound a little thin, maybe, and possibly a little sibilant - but nothing like, say, an AKG C3000, now THAT'S sibilant. But, that's only if I want to get nitpicky about the Marshalls - it's difficult to say anything bad about them... Everybody loves the sound of my V67, everyone who records through it loses their mind over it. Well, at first they love the mic, but then they lose their mind over it when they find out they can afford one.
