Im an ex-spurt
There's a dude has one for $450.
He says it's about 4 years old, hasn't been played thru much and it looks it. Really good shape.
I looked and it said VS2000, made in England if that helps. Online info said it's a hybrid and reviews (mostly) said it's a nice setup.
I'm guessing it went for $600 to $700 new and am thinking about offering $375 but am not sure.
Is it worth the $450 he wants?

Thanks-n-stuff....;)

Stay away! Just hold out for a used JCM or JVM for that much. You'll be much happier with one of those. I bought my JCM2000 for $350 and works great though it's close to 10 years old, but it works like a champ and gig with it weekly.

You just have to check craigslist and similar places twice a day and be ready to jump on anything you see.

Yea, give it a miss dogdude, seriously bad sounding fizzboxes.

Don't be misled by these guys. The Marshall AVT series amps sound pretty good. They give you the classic Marshall tone when driven loud. Of course soft they sound like fizzy pop, but once you give them some volume they're quite good.

Either you are completely tone deaf or you've never played through a real Marshall amp and cab before. The AVT heads sound like a box of bees and the cabs are made out of cardboard.

No they fuckin don't, a real Marshall valve amp doesn't give you that 'classic Marshall' tone these days, that's why everyone is buying Blackstars. :)

No box of bees. I used an AVT50 at the last gig my band played. Had lots of gain and it sounded like a Marshall. Even my drummer said it sounded good.

;)
And this is exactly why I posted that here. You guys are my heroes. :D

About 20 years ago I had a most excellent 2X12 Marshall combo that I picked up for $60 cuz it didn't work.
Had a blown fuse. :p

Wonder if he'd take 60?
heh heh....

I'll give it a pass and start lookin at the Blackstar cuz MunchDude said so.

Peace gentlemen. I'm off to quaff beer, jam really loud and deliver repeated crotch kicks to unsuspecting victims.

Have a nice day. :)

:laughings:

Man...you're gonna pass on a Marshall and buy a Blackstar cuz somebody on an internet forum told you to do so? WTF? Hey, I've owned a Blackstar and they're fairly good but Marshalls are rock and roll icons, tube or hybrid.

just tube...and your gonna have to dish out some cash for them unless you can find them used.

Maybe even consider an Jet City amp. I bought a JCA 100h, again used, for $300 off craigslist as a back up head. I'd pick that company over black star any day of the week. They are very close to their clients. Even saw a post on facebook where somebody had complained about their amp not working properly on the Jet City facebook page. The owner uses the page and shipped him a new amp to try, for free. All around great customer service, support, and community. They also have 20 and 50 watt heads, and even the 20 watt is a little beast in disguise! I'd highly recommend finding a place that carries them and trying them out.

Don't take our word on anything though, seriously go out and try these amps for yourself! We can only suggest things and try to guide you in what we like.

Another amp worth trying is an Orange.

Great amps, but definitely on the expensive side.

All in all it really depends on what you play, what type of sound you like, what your using it for. There is no perfect amp unfortunately. Which is why it's so important to try before you buy

Look ma, I'm a somebody. :D

Relax bud, if you like them then cool, enjoy. :)

Not just somebody... it was MunchDude said so

Nah, it's all good. I'm still pokin my nose into pawn shops and the one guitar type store we have.
I'll know it when I hear it.

But much thanks for the suggestions. I'll try all of em I can.

Peace-n-shit.

IMO the AVT actually does half-decent cleans. I own a combo and it breaks up rather well for a hybrid. High gain though? No, not a chance.

^^^^^^ this ^^^^^^^

It's a hybrid with a solid state power amp. Not gonna be like a real Marshall at all.

The Blackstar amps are pretty damned cool.
It depends on what you're looking for. To my ears I'd compare the Blackstar more to a Mesa sound than Marshall but they'll kick the AVT series Marshalls pretty much in every way.

And I don't think I'd go for the AVT because "it does half-decent cleans". :)

Marshall IS an icon but that doesn't mean just any cheap ass Chinese made entry level amp they throw the Marshall logo on is always the same.
And lol@ getting one because a drumber said it sounded just like a Marshall.
:D
