Hi, I'm a recording artist at SonSpot records in Los Angeles. I am a Latin musician trying to find ways to market my music through the internet. I have a song called "Siempre quiero" which many people believe could be a hit if I can somehow draw attention to myself. It can be downloaded but I was wondering if you could give me some useful tips on how to capture peoples attention. Marketing strategies, radio stations, etc. Thank you for your time.

you could start by giving us a link to it so we can listen to it?? :)

The best brief guide I've seen to what you're looking for is an article called "The Indie Artist's Road Map to Career Success" by Bill Parsons in the June 2000 edition of Performing Songwriter magazine. The article looks at every conceivable way to start local and then build.

Confused??

Dear Mr.Sayers, again I thank you for your reply. I still can't understand why you were unable to find sonspot records? I check my messages their everyday. I'm really discouraged because the site is not accessible to you. I hope you can guide me as to what the problem may be.
Thank you, Andres Vinuela.

John, here's the link he didn't supply, if you're interested:

"again I thank you for your reply."

Dude, you *are* confused - you didn't thank him the first time. I listened to the song and I think it could be a hit too, yes, but not in this form exactly. But if you want people to listen to your music, you should put a post, WITH A LINK, in the mp3.com forum on this bbs. What do you want exactly? Do you want people to listen to the song? Then put it in the mp3 clinic. Do you want information about how to generate public interest in your music? In that case, tell me what you thought about the magazine article I suggested.

BTW, are you the good-looking guy in the singlet in the photo looking off to the right, or the guy smoking the cigarette and looking at the camera? Nobody's looking at the camera except the guy with the cigarette. He looks like he knows what's going on.

Dear Dobro, FYI I am the guy on the far left walking with the guitar case over my shoulder. The other dudes are my best friends since we were in junior high school. We took this picture when we were in college together in U.C Santa Barbara. I am a medical student now in Guadalajara Mexico(home of the mariachi and tequila and Mana) but have decided to take the semester/year off to pursue my dream to become a musician here in Los Angeles. Thank you for helping me with the link, you see, I am quite lost on all technical matters being that I've spent the last 2 and a half years in Mexico without a computer handy. Thanks again for your patience and I plan to read the article tonight. Andres Vinuela

Well, I know why you're not looking at the camera (or the other guy with a guitar) - when you walk on the outside of the tracks, you gotta watch where you put your feet. :D

Virgin Records

Hey, thanks for all the great tips you guys. Thing's are picking up for me...have some great songs finished finally. My manager say's that Virgin records is waiting to hear from me. My question this week is more about needing some insight on the pros and cons of signing a record contract. What to look out for, what to ask for, what kind of contract works best for the artist instead of the large record companies? I've heard about so many musicians filing for bankrupcies that I really want to be cautious amid all the hype....thanks again.

Dobro, you are the Man! Thanks for the link, I'll get on top of it and let you know what's up. Thanks again, Andres.

Believe In Your Music

The most important part of this process.....believing in yourself, while being open to criticism. But be weary of the ego because when it takes over you lose the sincerity of each note. Just sending some positive vibes out to all the Nonbelievers. Lates!
