Grettings,

I have been checing out drum kits for a home recording studio. A drummer friend was wanting me to get pearl, but I have really been looking at Mapex. The pro M kit looks really good for doing recording. The kit will be used only for recording. Any opinions would be much appreciated.

I like Mapex kits!
I have 2 of them. One Mapex pro M Shallow shell kit with 20" kick 10 / 12 / 14 toms and a 13" snare, and I have a second Venus Jazz kit 18 kick 8/10/12 toms and 12 " snare. I use them both in the studio, the pro M goes with me on the road.

I also have my son's Premier kit available to record on, and I really like it as well. So much of what makes them sound good is head selection and tuning.

I 2nd tmix on the Mapex kits. I have the Mapex 15th anniversary kit (pro m) and it sounds great recorded. Also I agree that head selection and tuning can make a world of difference. They also make good snares (the Black Panther ones). Isn't drum shopping fun? :)

Talking about Black Panther snares. My fave is the Walnut 14"x 5.5". The M Pros are great for the money. :D
