Sounds like a good recording. Things are pretty clear. The vocal sits well in the mix. Pity about the plugnplaydigitaldistortion sound of the guitars. The riff would've sounded meatier if it sounded more like a guitar - think Gibson LP tube overdriven into a big marshall stack rather than well what I said before.

not really my area in terms of music style but yes its clear with good seperation ..probably in part because its bone dry with any kind of atmospherics in terms of reverb ect .....

the guitar sounds like digital but i think its possible to inject a little atmos to the guitars and bring them into the real world..... impressive track...lots of dynamic.

sounds really really really good to me for metal music but thats not my genre.

The mix sounds nice.

The guitars could sound more wet and livelier. The song actually renders pretty well without the growls. I'm not much for growls without a reason. I'll like an occassional growl here and there so that might just be my bias.

About guitars, you could always mic a cab with some verb and overlay on these.

Can't comment on the bass 'coz of work headphones. But will try to comment later.

wolfsburg: I recorded the drums digitally with the exception of the cymbals, recorded with some cheapo cad condensers. All of the drum samples were obtained over my years of listening to music and finding what sounds I liked best... Then I recorded the guitar cab (Fender Metalhead with 4/12's) with two sm57 mics and did left and right layering, & did a lot of editing to clean them up. I recorded the bass straight from the output on the head, vocals with an AKG c4000B and I think that's about it. The samples were from turntables and were recorded line out...

rayc: I'm sorry, I really didnt mean to. About the "plugnplaydistortion" I believe that is because it's a solid state head. And I recorded the guitars with two mics, and did two tracks; left and right. I wish I could convince my guitarist to go with some tubes, but he's set on solid.

zazz: I think I will add some verb to the guitars like you said.

bigbubba: This is actually our more radio friendly song, if you check out our other stuff it's pretty much lots of screaming/growling. It's kind of where our singer influences from. I think the more we progress, the more of a "Mudvayne" style of vocal he will progress to.

It's really cool that you've put up a mix that includes the Fender MetalHead amp. Mic-ing with SM57's (pretty standard) it gives listeners a very good insight into how the head sounds. (Thanks I'm sure from all of the buyers currently considering this purchase - fence sitters too).

The metal sound on the guitars has a lot more bottom end that some of the SS and modelers. It's pretty full so (I think) it was a good investment for your genre.

I like the alternating vocals - clean and growl - makes this much more radio friendly and can crossover on the more liberal stations.

I really like the writing and playing on this - even though it is not my genre - I can appreciate the work you 've put into it. Oh and I have no nits with anything in the recording....
