I have recorded my piano playing on a minidisk. I would like to make wav files from that recording on my PC. The software that came with the (Sony) minisdisk recorder will not let me do this. How can this be done?? Thanks!

You have to connect the output of minidisc to input of sound card and record in real time. Use optical output to optical input if you have it. I don't know of a faster way from going from minidisc to hardrive. From what I understand the new minidisc player/recorders can move files at 32X from hardrive to minidisc but not the other way.
I use CoolEdit Pro to record to my hardrive with. I'm sure there are other software out there that is probably free that works and is free but I find CEP easy to use and a very good music editor.

I love my minidisc stuff but after getting used to moving files from cd's to hardrive in seconds I sure am spoiled.

getting mp3s onto the computer

Thank you so much for responding to my plea for help.

I found a cheaper, but good software program for converting mp3s files into wav files. However, it only works on mp3 files that are already on my computer. Now my problem is, how do I get the music (tracks) off the Sony minidisk player onto the computer!! Is there another program for that, or am I just stupid?

I am a musician, not a computer person....but I guess you've noticed that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Karen

Connect line out of minidisc to line in of sound card. Use an 1/8 mini stereo jack patch cord. Use whatever program you prefer most will let you select the format to save it to. I would select an mp3 format. Make sure the soundcard properties has the line in jack turned on in the record properties.
Keep looking for other software out there, remember Google is our friend.
This is all done in real time, just like in the old days when I recorderd albums to tape.
Anyway I hope this helps and I haven't confused you. Hopefully maybe some one else can explain it better or have other software suggestions.

minisdisk recording

Thank you once again....geeez, I feel like a pest.

I will look for the soundcard "properities", and see if the record function is turned on. However, I think I may need to find a recorder program.....something that will let me record for more than a minute. Yes, I did hook the minidisk to the computer the way you suggested, but can't find the tracks anywhere on the computer....that's why I think I need a recorder program.

I agree, google is becoming my friend! LOL I do really appreciate your help.

Thank you once again, Karen
