Good Day/ Evening...

I may sound a bit immature with this question but I have searched the web for about an hour now and have had no luck to this question....

I have some drum kits and samples that are all in wav format. I use Pc and he uses mac. I have sent him some files but they will not play on his system.. Also I have noticed when I purchase samples that there will always be a Mac OSX folder that comes with it...

What kind of software would I need to make my wav files compatible with mac?

The working format for Macs is AIFF (the file extension will be .aif). In terms of data and quality, it's pretty much identical to .wav but, as usual, Mac go off and do their own thing.

Have a check on your DAW...many of them will let you simply open the file and "Save As: an .aif file.

Failing that, a bit of lateral thinking:

If both of you have (or download and install) a free FLAC codec, perhaps you could Save As a FLAC file, send it to your friend, and let him open it as a .aif file. FLAC is lossless compression so it shouldn't affect the sound at all.

Or, if the files aren't too big, save them in .wav or flac to box.net or similar and I can convert them for you and save them back to the same sharing site.

I've been using a Mac for years and I've never had any trouble opening a WAV--no conversion needed. iTunes opens 'em, Cubase opens 'em, QuickTime opens 'em, Final Cut Pro opens 'em.

Never mind the computer itself--what software is he using that won't open a wav?

Ableton opens them, shit, I always export audio to the 'industry standard' 16 bit 44.1 wav file on my mac, never an issue...

As said, Wav should open with pretty much any audio app on mac.
It should even open in the native preview thing!

What prog is he using?

Exactly. I just drilled into the folder from my last recording session (again, it's a Mac! Trust me!) and every audio capture file is a wav. Even though aiff is the Mac version of a full range CD-quailty file--there's no aiff until I specify it on mixdown. Up until that point, all the full range files are wav's.

Wav's and aiff's are just containers and Macs will work with either one.

(I've recorded for the last 8 years on Windows boxes and for the last year on an iMac.
I use wav's and record to wav's on it, so your friend is doing something wrong.)

Use Super or almost any CD ripper/converter (Easy CD DA Converter for example) to make a set of converted files so that you & he have no probs with the project. I used thta converter last week to make .aif & .ogg files for a Mac user in a collab.

Well thank you for all of the comments... I really appreciate it...

Naturally I thought that there wouldn't be a problem either considering the fact that they are wav files.. But dude told me that he couldn't get them to play properly....

I actually did find a program that will convert files to any major audio format... Its called switch.... I downloaded it and tried it out.. Got the job done

Again.. Thanks for the responses....

usually what I have seen in there is like a .ds file if I am correct.. either that or a completely seperate folder containing all of the same samples in .aiff format

I have never had any problem with wav files or Bwav files on my Mac.
