Hey guys I am making my first small set up just to record vocals. I want to get a microphone, computer/microphone interface, and a preamp. Are these the items to get that make a near professional sound from home? I have a 1.5K budget and would really love some help. I've heard good things about neumann microphones but I dont know much about interfaces or preamps. Anything is appreciated.

Thanks.

Yeah, Neumanns are OK mics. But if you want one of those you may have to up your budget a bit.

Audio-Technica AT4050 ($700) + Avid Mbox ($450 w/o Pro Tools or $820 w Pro Tools) The Preamps in the new Mbox are pretty good.

Will you be recording AND mixing, or simply recording the vox and sending them off elsewhere?

Thanks for all the responses. I will be recording AND mixing. Also if I get something like an avid box is that compatible with Logic.

Read the stickys in this forum, You need monitors and sound treatment. $1.5K will quickly disappear.

Update: Starting a few days ago, AVID now bundles a light version of Pro Tools, "Pro Tools Express" with the Mbox for no extra $. It's feature set is limited mostly with regard to track count, but for the original poster's needs, it is likely quite sufficient.
