Wasn't sure which forum to post this in...

I want to make some ringtones of my band's music. I've seen programs for sale that help you do this but I'm wondering if it can be done with the multitrack software that I already own. I was hoping somebody with some knowledge of this would help me out.

I want to offer them free on my band's webpage.

Thanks,
Rusty K

I have actually made a few ringtones recently. My phone cant have a ringtone over like 500k or something like that. So i make it like 20sec long (phone wont ring longer than that) and a low quality mp3 (phone speakers are horrible anyway). And I have a microSD card in my phone so I put that in the computer and put the ringtone on there, then back in my phone. So now I get free ringtones I want, any part of the song I want, for free.

AMcB,

Thanks I thought it should be pretty simple but....what is the microSD? Like a flash card? I want to make the ringtones available for a free download on our webpage.

I've found Audacity for free that makes ringtones but as far as I can tell it doesn't do anthing that I can't do already. The difficult part is making the ringtone available for download by anyone from my webpage.

Or I guess the problem is going from PC/Mac to the phone?

Yeah thats why I have a Micro Sd card, that plugs into the computer and then I put the stuff on it and then it into my phone. some phones have them. most dont.

update

I found a service that will host the ringtones and I can upload whatever I want. I was just behind the curve on this one....nothing unusual for an "old schooler".

For anyone who might be looking for the same answers, here's a link...

I'm sure there are many other services like this but they do have a "free" plan.
Free is good!

Thanks,

A lot of phones these days support mp3's. Just make short mp3's available for download is the easiest way. My phone also has a MicroSD card in it. It also has a USB socket in it. So I just pluggmy phone into my computer the same way you would with an IPod or whatever. I don't usually go in for musical ringtones, but if a phone suports mp3's, you can generally set them as ringtones, which I have done in the past for the purpose of annoying their workmates. I get sick of hearing gayassed pop tunes laying everytime someone calls them, so I figure in the interests of equality, they have no place complaining when someone calls me and Cannibal Corpse starts playing.
