Let us be unburdened by that which has been ?
Well, most of the equipment is now in place in my tracking/mixing space. I have some older cables to connect the rack gear to the board effects send/receives, but I want to get something better and am considering making my own. I am looking at the Neutrik NP3X or NP3C connectors and need some guidance on cable. This would be the same cable as if I were wiring up XLR connectors, correct, like a Starquad or similar?

I'm going to price everything out. I need about 20 cables, give or take. If I can save 40% or so I'll do it. If not, I may buy.

Also, I haven't soldered in about 20 years, and was never a seasoned solderer, but I figure it can't be too terribly difficult if I go the DIY route. I did a search on saw some links for wiring connections should I have questions. Sounds like you pretty much wire ring to ring, tip to tip, sleeve to sleeve consistently and that's it.

Yeah, making cables is pretty simple once you got your technique down. Just make sure that both of the points that will be connected are hot before you make the connection. If this is for permanent install, you can save a lot of money by getting cable that doesn't have the thick outer coating. Most microphone cable has a thick outer rubber coating because it is abused on stage or in the tracking room. Install cable doesn't need the extra protection. An install balanced cable only needs 2 conductors and a shield.
